This morning, our Detroit HQ team enjoyed a cozy hot cocoa bar because around here, winter always has one more plot twist up its sleeve.

Whether it’s sunshine or snowflakes, Walbridge is all about creating moments that bring our teams together.

Last week, our team in Marshall, Michigan participated in the LivingWorks SafeTALK su***de prevention training, hosted by Volunteers of America Michigan.

This workshop prepares participants to become su***de alert helpers. The training equips individuals to recognize the warning signs of suicidal thoughts, have direct and open conversations, and connect people to life saving resources when it matters most.

Thank you to our team members and subcontractors who took part. Mental health and su***de awareness are critical in the construction industry, where the su***de rate is roughly four times the national average. It starts with looking out for one another on every jobsite and continuing to have open, supportive conversations.

⭐ Throwback Thursday ⭐

In 1919, Walbridge completed construction of Orchestra Hall, built as the first permanent home for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Financed, planned, and constructed in just six months, the hall opened on October 23, 1919. The DSO marked the dedication with a performance of the national anthem.

Over the years, Orchestra Hall evolved with the city. It became the Paradise Theatre in the 1940s, hosting jazz greats like Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. After decades of decline and the threat of demolition, a major restoration effort brought the DSO back home on September 15, 1989.

More than a century later, Orchestra Hall stands as a symbol of Detroit’s resilience and Walbridge’s impact on the city’s skyline.

Last month, our mission critical team in New Albany, Ohio came together to support a local veterans organization, VALOR, that provides essential resources for veterans in need including counseling, access to benefits, food, and shelter.

Through fundraising efforts, raffles, and generous donations, we were able to donate $1,300 to support VALOR’s renovation of an old schoolhouse that will provide temporary housing for homeless veterans.

We are proud to support an organization doing such meaningful work for those who have served.

In recognition of Indiana Renewable Energy Day, our project team in Kokomo, Indiana hosted a small group luncheon where they discussed local wind and solar initiatives, Indiana’s national clean energy rankings, and shared perspectives on recycling and renewable energy.

To make it hands on, they even attempted to make s’mores using a homemade solar oven. While the wind chill was not exactly ideal for solar cooking, it did get warm enough to soften the chocolate, so we’re calling it a partial win!
