GREETINGS! During this freezing weather we all are experiencing ... here are some tips to help prevent frozen or burst water pipes...
1 - Remember that moving water is harder to freeze.
2 - Always remember it's also a good idea to drip your hot and cold water from at least one faucet. Works best on the furthest faucet away from where the water enters your home. This keeps hot and cold water moving and helps prevent freezing.
3 - If your kitchen sink or bathroom sink is on an exterior wall, it's a good idea to open your cabinet doors to allow more heat under the cabinet where you have plumbing pipes.
4 - Run your dishwasher and your clothes washer on delay timer to the longest cleaning cycle at different times during the night. This allows water in the system to move.
5 - Always remove garden hoses from your hose faucets and cover them with protective covers. These can be purchased at any hardware store.
6 - Another commonly missed task ... Is to always close all your crawlspace vents...this helps control the temperature underneath in the crawlspace.
