🥓🍳 BREAKFAST WITH THE CREW ☕️

Yesterday morning, we traded the jobsite for the grill and kicked off the day with a breakfast cookout for the whole Mitchell Outdoor & Design team!

Between early mornings, long days, and all the hard work that goes into each project, it’s important to take a little time to slow down, share a meal, and appreciate the people behind it all.

Good food, good company, and an even better crew. 👏

Q: Where does all that water from my downspout go? 🤔

When a patio or hardscape is installed around your home, managing water is an important part of the design.

Instead of allowing a downspout to dump water directly onto the patio, we can connect it to an underground drainage system that carries the water away from the house and hardscape. 🌧️🏡

And when those torrential downpours roll through? Our properly designed drainage system is built to handle serious water flow, directing all that rain where it needs to go instead of letting it collect around your outdoor spaces. 💦

✨ FEATURE FRIDAY | GRANITE COUNTERTOPS ✨

This Outdoor kitchen was installed in 2021. Outdoor kitchens and bars need materials that are chosen for more than just their looks. 🌿🍽️

That’s why we often turn to granite countertops for our outdoor spaces. Granite is a natural stone that offers the durability needed for an outdoor environment while still giving the finished space a polished, high-end look.

☀️ Handles the outdoors — Granite holds up well against sun, heat, and changing temperatures.

💪 Durable — It’s a hard surface that can stand up to everyday use in a busy outdoor kitchen or bar.

🔥 Heat resistant — A major plus when you’re designing around grills and cooking areas.

✨ TRANSFORMATION THURSDAY ✨

A landscape refresh doesn’t always mean starting from scratch! 🌿

For this transformation, we worked with a mix of existing and new plant material to give this walkway a fresh, updated look. Select plants were kept, while others were removed or replaced to create better spacing and open up the landscape.

Another big change? The existing rock beds were replaced with fresh mulch, giving the entire space a softer, cleaner look while helping the plantings stand out. 🌱

It’s all about knowing what to keep, what to change, and what to add to bring new life to an existing landscape.

Same walkway, completely refreshed surroundings! 👏

🚧 PROGRESS WEDNESDAY: CREW CAM 📸👷

A little behind-the-scenes look straight from the crew! 👀

This week, we’re creating a brand-new landscape bed using curved lines, defined edging and decorative stone to shape the space around the existing trees. 🌳🪨

Those curves aren’t just for looks, they help the new bed flow naturally through the property and create a softer, more intentional transition between the lawn and landscape.

It may look like a whole lot of stone right now, but just wait until you see this one finished! 👀🌿

For this space, the kitchen and bar were positioned so the homeowners and their guests can cook, gather and hang out without turning their backs on the lake. 🌊

Even the placement of the seating helps keep the view front and center—because when your backyard looks like this, you want to enjoy it! ☀️

Thoughtful outdoor design considers more than where everything fits. It considers what you’ll see, how you’ll move through the space and how you’ll actually use it. 🏡

Fire tables bring warmth and atmosphere to an outdoor living space while providing plenty of surrounding counter space for gathering, dining, and entertaining. 🍹🔥 In this design, bar-height seating turns the fire feature into a natural gathering spot where everyone can pull up a chair and enjoy the space together.

It’s a feature that adds function, warmth, and a major focal point to any patio. ✨🏡

✨ TRANSFORMATION THURSDAY ✨

Now THAT’S a driveway transformation! 👀🏡

This space went from a traditional concrete driveway to a beautiful permeable paver driveway nearly double the size, creating significantly more room for parking while making less of an impact on stormwater runoff. 🌧️🌿

That’s the beauty of permeable pavers. Instead of water running across the surface and into surrounding areas, the system is designed to allow water to filter down through the pavement and into the ground below. 💧

So even though the new driveway has a much larger footprint, its permeable design helps manage water where it falls, combining function, sustainability, and curb appeal in one transformation. 🧱✨
