✈️ This past weekend, members of EAA Chapter 1602 St Petersburg FL Group headed to Tampa Executive Airport to support EAA Chapter 175’s Young Eagles event, what a fantastic day it was!
Huge congratulations to Chapter 175 for putting on such a well-organized and inspiring event. You gave several young aviation enthusiasts an unforgettable first flight experience and helped spark the next generation of pilots! 👏

As scheduled, we will have this meeting at Albert Whitted Airport on June 16. However, it will be hosted at the Flying Adventure (Stearman) hangar.

Although we’re excited to see everyone—including the new members we’re expecting—we’ve decided to cancel Tuesday’s meeting. After some recovery time following SUN ’n FUN, we’ll be back on track for our next meeting on May 19!

Looking forward to seeing you then at The Hangar Restaurant & Flight Lounge. If you are unable to attend, we hope to see you on the next 3rd Tuesday of every month!

✈️ What an amazing day at Albert Whitted Airport!

EAA Chapter 1602 hosted another successful Young Eagles event, giving 20 kids the thrill of a lifetime with free airplane rides piloted by our local volunteers.

The goal? To spark inspiration in the next generation of aviators — and from the smiles on their faces, we’d say mission accomplished!

A huge shout-out to EAA Chapter 282 for their fantastic support in making this event possible. Thank you for helping us share the joy of flight!

This past weekend at the Planes, Trains & Automobiles event, EAA Chapter 1602’s very own members Liam and Greg soared to the top—taking 1st and 2nd place in the People's Choice Awards! They are truly the Fan Favorites!

In Bradenton, FL (27.486, -82.567), LECOM Park and the Pittsburgh Pirates' spring training facility now sit atop the remains of the Bradenton Airport. Established around 1936, this airfield endured years of uncertainty, including wartime security closures during World War II, before reopening postwar. By 1960, the rapidly growing town of Bradenton—with its exploding residential and commercial development—squeezed the airport out of existence, erasing it into history.

Albert Whitted Airport, Chapter 1602’s home base, thrives because of tireless efforts to fight for the preservation of this historic icon of St. Pete and to evangelize its value and contribution to the community. Many other airports have not been as fortunate; they slip away into obscurity or vanish altogether. Occasionally, though, an airfield does not entirely disappear—it dots the landscape as a reminder of aviation innovation and progress.
