Finished up this project just a wee bit ago. I'm grateful to my client for giving me the opportunity to make these prototype units and design this opening. These six sashes are constructed of vertical grain clear douglass fir with sheets of 1/2" thick insulated glass instead of individual panes. This gives these windows and doors the best of both worlds, a historic look with modern energy efficiency. I have built windows in particular for years now and this is an idea I have been itching to bring to fruition. I'm glad to see it done. And glad to say that I can now offer fully custom energy efficient wood windows with confidence, one hundred percent handcrafted in my own shop, and backed by my years of experience as a window maker. With no bu****it plastic parts or cheap finger-joined lumber. The four casement windows here feature built-in screens and are operable with brass hand cranks.
