Design and build. These custom sashes for casement windows and doors have a historic look and the modern energy efficiency of insulated glass.

It was a real pleasure to figure out this process. And a joy to build. More to come!

I'm singing John Henry in the background from a live recording I've been sitting on. Enjoy!

In 1909, they used old newspapers to wrap their random width sheathing. And you're too good for tar paper! Zip system you say? Smh haha.

I'm getting ready to put a new back door in my old house. Imagine my surprise when I found these old news rags under the door trim. I can only assume the whole wall is papered with them behind the siding. That's certainly what it looks like. Astonishingly, they are bone dry, as is the layer of random width 1" planks that serves as wall sheathing.

I designed, built, installed, and finished this grand entryway on a barn restoration project with . Came out pretty nice if I do say so myself. I've been on this one since around Thanksgiving with a few breaks here and there. Finally got the hardware on this week. Made of vertical grain doug fir with restoration glass, the waviness doesn't quite come through in the photos. Seven sashes here plus the frame that supports everything. The double doors themselves are over 8' tall and about 40" wide. I'll share some more process photos and detail shots in the near future. Thanks for reading. The word is our next client loved this idea so much they want two of them.

Laying out a stop-splayed, under squinted, tabled scarf joint with wedges. Say that 3 times fast!

We're playing catch up on documenting our current restoration, the Hilltown barn. This was done in March. This span and another matching set of timbers are now an integral part of the new floor system.

A pair of custom 20 light mahogany window sashes with a nice stained glass accent. Made on site at our current barn conversion project. These will go high in the gable walls once the barn is resided.

Thanks Tinsman Bros Inc. for the fine mahogany.

A pair of matching built-ins for a repeat client. Completed in fall of 2023, and definitely one of my favorite projects of the year. Soft maple face frame cabinets with raised panels, red oak countertops, and sprayed finish. Everything made in my shop and assembled on site. Because of the size of the room, it was difficult to get a pic of both units together but I've got one in here somewhere.

I think this opening MIGHT be a little out of square. I built a couple of these storm doors as part of a larger restoration with at Ford Hook Farm, the original home of the Burpee Seed Company, based right here in beautiful Bucks County, PA. The storms have removable panels, rebated in and held in place with turn buttons. There are glass panels and screened panels to suit the weather. We also restored all of the windows and doors on this building... Here's one of the walls too.
