Carefully monitor the snow volume on your roof! Most roofs in the valley are designed for 30 psf of snow load. 40 to 50 psf on the benches. Even more on the Wasatch Back. Water weighs 62.4 psf. The snow water equivalent of snow varies, but we had a very wet snow last night. SAFELY start shoveling snow if you have lots of snow on your roof, especially if you have tall drifts. This is more critical in older homes and homes that pre-date pre-fab trusses. If you have trusses, you can note the sag in the middle of a room. Generally, more than an inch is a big deal, depending on roof design, span and location in the home. Older homes are not connected to a ceiling joist, so the sag is only evidence in the top chord, as seen from inside the attic space. They may warrant midspan bracing to a bearing wall. If you have any questions, please call a competent contractor or engineer. Please stay safe!

Our office works on a variety of projects including all aspects of water resource engineering, environmental, hydraulics, planning, transportation, preconstruction engineering, construction management, surveying, and development. The primary focus of this position is to engineer and design projects as assigned with project management growth opportunities. This position requires an individual with excellent communication skills, an eye for detail and the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies and staff members. The successful candidate will be experienced in all phases of Civil Engineering projects. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering Minimum 3 years experience in this field Ability to apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Ability to prepare technical reports Working knowledge of engineering software and tools, CADD experience a must. Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities Ability to follow directions, and work independently and in a team setting Strong communication skills, problem solving and organizational skills Potential responsibility for project resource management, scheduling, budgets and forecasts and working with external vendors and contractors.
