Beckman Construction is looking for an outstanding full-time team member to join our production crew.

We’re a custom home builder, which means our work is varied. One day you may be framing, another installing interior trim or flooring, and another helping with equipment or completing finish work on a home.

What we’re looking for

More than anything, we’re looking for the right person.

Someone who is:

Responsible and dependable

Detail-oriented and takes pride in doing things correctly
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Willing to learn and take direction
Comfortable working with tools and around construction equipment
Someone who sees what needs to be done and helps get it done

Construction experience is valuable, particularly experience with framing, interior trim, flooring, or light equipment, but attitude, work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn are extremely important to us.

What you'll be doing

This position will include a variety of residential construction work, including:

Framing
Interior trim and finish carpentry
Flooring installation
Light equipment and machine operation
General construction and jobsite work
Assisting our team wherever needed to keep projects moving

One of the conversations we have pretty regularly is about square footage.

A lot of people start out thinking they need more space than they actually do.

Don't get me wrong—there are times when a larger home makes sense. But I've walked through plenty of homes where thousands of square feet aren't really being used, and I've walked through smaller homes that feel incredible because they were designed well.

What I've found is that people rarely talk about how much square footage they have after they've lived in a home for a few years.

They talk about whether the kitchen works.

Whether there's enough storage.

Whether they have a place to gather with family.

Whether the house feels bright and comfortable.

Whether it fits their lifestyle.

That's one of the reasons we spend so much time talking about how a family lives before we start drawing walls and assigning room sizes.

The goal isn't to build the biggest house we can.

The goal is to build a home that feels right every day you live there.

Sometimes that means adding square footage.

Sometimes it means using the square footage differently.

Good design isn't always about more, it's usually just better.

One of the things we see catch people off guard when building a custom home is the cost of the site itself.

Most people focus on the house—which makes sense. That's the exciting part.

But sometimes the land has a bigger impact on the budget than people realize.

A property may need a long driveway. It may require significant excavation. Utilities might be farther away than expected. A beautiful walkout lot may need retaining walls or additional foundation work.

None of those things are necessarily bad. In fact, some of the most beautiful homes we've worked on have had challenging sites.

The key is understanding those costs before you fall in love with a floor plan.

One of the reasons we spend so much time evaluating properties early in the process is because the land should influence the design. The best homes are the ones that work with the site—not against it.

When the house fits the property, the result is usually a better home, a smoother construction process, and fewer surprises along the way.
