💚 Meet Rodrigo 💚
On October 12, 2025, Rodrigo Galindo was your typical, independent 15-year-old from Bethany, OK. Within just a few hours, his world and his family’s changed forever.
What started as sudden numbness in his limbs quickly turned into a life-threatening crisis. Rodrigo was rushed to OU Children’s Hospital as his oxygen levels plummeted. Despite countless tests and hours of MRIs, doctors were left searching for answers. Today, the medical team suspects he may have had a Spinal Cord Stroke. This is a rare condition affecting less than 1% of all stroke patients.
Rodrigo now relies on a tracheostomy to breathe and requires 24/7 medical care. While he has regained some small movement in his fingers, he is currently wheelchair-dependent. But if you think that has dimmed his spirit, you don’t know Rodrigo. What stands out most about this young man is his unwavering positivity. Even while facing the toughest fight of his life, Rodrigo’s infectious smile is a shining light to everyone around him.
He’s already back to doing some of the activities he loves. He’s been able to listen to music and play video games using a special mouth-controlled device. His attitude is so uplifting that the staff at Bethany Children’s Hospital has even asked him to help encourage other patients.
Rodrigo is ready to be at home, and his family is ready to have him home too, but the hurdles are extremely high. Those hurdles are Accessible Housing, Specialized Equipment, and Constant Care.
The family is currently searching for a handicap-accessible residence, funding for the critical medical gear, and constant medical care needed for Rodrigo’s new normal.
The VHR family is honored to stand with Rodrigo. We believe this "shining light" deserves to be in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by the people who love him most. 💚
