It’s that time of year that I realize I haven’t posted any of the work Red Head Green Thumb has been doing, in months. The season runs from April through October and we work hard full time. This was way back in June and required all hands and extra hands on deck to complete the w**ding, planting, trimming, part of the mulching, shrub removal and I also did some design and plant selection. Joanie O'Sullivan-Butler was pleased with the outcome at her beautiful home🌱🌸🌺🌻

What is the secret to keeping a tidy, kempt garden?
Not having a job outside the home
Not having active children
Not being an involved parent
So basically, my gardens are wild because our life is in the busy stage and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
I just got done with the two hour process of watering all of the plants and I tried to be very intentional with using it as a time for stilling my mind, which used to be easier. Try to not think about the to-do list or anything else, except for how beautiful the vegetation is, how pretty the birds sound, how the warm breeze that comes across the fields is heavenly and how I’m so grateful for all of it.
I love gardens. The more plants, the better, but I also have ideas of how I want them to look. Part of enjoying it as such a busy, involved family, is letting go of the idea of perfection and being ok with just doing your best because there are other things more important to me at this point of my life.
Remember. Life is short. Take some time to kick back, breathe and enjoy the fruits of your labor, regardless of the chaos. 🌱🌺🌼🌸

Cecilia James Dunavant hired Red Head Green Thumb to clear out one of their beds to get ready for planting grass and then do some w**ding of a couple of other beds. The one bed had a large amount of buried rock that we had to dig out. Sometimes the job we are asked to do doesn’t include making a clean edge or having it mulched. Sometimes it’s just please clean it out and we’ll do the rest. The client is happy and that’s what matters🌺🌸🌼🌱

Red Head Green Thumb has been slammed since late April. We have been working hard to help our regular and new clients. Carolyn Reese Johns and Bruce have been having us help them maintain their beds for five seasons and they are some of my favorite people❤️ This time it was maintenance w**ding in all of the beds, trimming of shrubs, thinning out of some perennials, laying some w**d barrier in one bed and then mulching. It’s looking beautiful😊🌸🌺🌼

Last Saturday was the first big, team job of the season for Red Head Green Thumb. Susan Hargett Ethridge hired us to take her flower beds and get them looking cleaned up, fresh and neat. We w**ded, thinned out a lot of her perennials, divided and replanted some of her perennials to fill in empty spots and balance things out. Philip Partlo worked his magic with removing the rock border to uncover it and then resetting it and creating a new, natural edge for the side yard flower bed. The other boys worked hard at digging out so many w**ds and unwanted vegetation and then mulched it all. I love having such an awesome team💪🌼🌸
The client’s response….”it looks amazing!”

River told me first thing this morning that it’s Earth Day, which makes it very fitting to be kicking off my sixth season of Red Head Green Thumb. I was so lucky to be getting my fingers and back warmed up by working in Carolyn Reese Johns and Bruce’s beautiful flower beds. This is the fifth season I’ve been helping them and I couldn’t be more grateful. They are wonderful people who have become friends.
So today, I got to enjoy being out in the beautiful weather and having an egg sandwich which Carolyn made for me while we caught up❤️

I started Red Head Green Thumb five years ago to help provide for my family and pursue one of my other passions…gardening🌺🌸🌼🌱I started taking care of my own flower beds about 15 years ago and developed a love of seeing everything grow, changing things around, adding and dividing plants, and yes, even w**ding. I love being outside and making a yard go from being blah or a disaster, to something that you can look at, love, and be proud of it.
When I decided to start doing this for a living, I knew I wanted to learn more, so I took the certification through the MSU Extension and became a certified Master Gardener. There continues to be so much more to learn!

My sixth season is about to start for my team and I. What started off as just me and occasionally a couple family members, has become a regular team of 6-10 people and this year, I’ll be adding more to be able to keep up with the growing client list. It has been a huge blessing to do this with my husband, kids, siblings, and friends as my team🌱🌺🌸🌼
