What an incredible rain event we’ve had in Durango!
Every storm brings two choices: let runoff rush off the land, carrying topsoil with it, or slow it down, spread it out, and let it soak in where it can grow something.
That’s the idea behind rainwater harvesting. We design landscapes that work with the natural movement of water—capturing more of what falls on your property to support plants, build healthier soil, and reduce erosion.
A good rainstorm can teach us a lot about our landscapes. Sometimes the best design ideas start by simply watching where the water wants to go.

Rainwater harvesting in action!

It’s exciting to see these basins and spillways working during a rainstorm—before the mulch goes in and they blend naturally into the landscape.

Designed to capture, slow, and guide rainwater, they help every drop go further and support the plants around them.

Great landscape design works with water, not against it.

Meet Mojave Sage (Salvia pachyphylla) — a beautiful plant that actually prefers less water! Its silvery foliage and vibrant purple blooms make it a standout in water-wise landscapes.

A great reminder that sometimes less water really is more.

Great landscape design is about more than plants. It's about how you live.
A quiet place to enjoy your morning coffee. A path that invites you to take a walk through the garden. A patio where family and friends naturally gather.
Plants are important—but they're only part of the story. Great landscape design creates outdoor spaces you'll want to return to every day.

Summer isn’t over yet.
One of our favorite long-blooming waterwise perennials is Pineleaf Penstemon (Penstemon pinifolius). Its brilliant red flowers provide weeks of color while attracting hummingbirds and other pollinators.
Great landscapes are designed with every season in mind. Including late bloomers keeps your garden colorful and full of life long after many spring flowers have faded.
Mid-summer is the perfect time to see what’s missing in your landscape—and start planning for even more beauty.
