Did you know many Crepe Myrtle’s are over-trimmed every season? The practice of removing all branches except large branches is extremely detrimental to the plant and can have a major impact on its health and lifespan. To make matters worse, over-trimming severely impacts the amount of blooms produced which are a favorite of bees 🐝 the crepe Myrtle pictured is one at my own home which has been trimmed only along the sides during the proper pruning season. This style provides an amazing canopy during the summer seasons when the leaves thicken and blooms are produced by established branches.
