🌪️ TORNADO WARNING + HEAVY RAIN — POOL OWNERS, HERE’S WHAT TO WATCH FOR! 🌧️
Rochester weather is putting on a show tonight. With the heavy rain and tornado warning, your pool is probably the LAST thing on your mind — and honestly, safety comes first. Get inside, stay informed, and take shelter when advised.
Once the storm passes, though, here are a few things to check around your pool:
💧 CHECK THE WATER LEVEL
Heavy rain can add a surprising amount of water to your pool. If it’s getting unusually high, you may need to lower it once the storm has safely passed.
🧪 TEST YOUR WATER
Rain can dilute your chlorine and affect pH and alkalinity. Give your water a test after the storm and get your chemistry back in balance.
🍂 CHECK YOUR SKIMMER & PUMP BASKETS
Leaves, sticks and debris can pile up quickly. A clogged basket can restrict flow and put unnecessary strain on your equipment.
🌳 LOOK UP — AND AROUND
After high winds, check for fallen branches, damaged fencing, debris in the pool, and anything that may have landed on or around your equipment.
⚠️ WATCH YOUR EQUIPMENT AREA
If you have standing water around your pump, filter or electrical equipment, do not mess with it. Stay away and have a professional inspect it if necessary.
🏊 IN-GROUND POOL OWNERS:
Heavy rain can saturate the ground around your pool. If you notice unusual movement, shifting, cracking, or the pool appearing to lift, DO NOT DRAIN THE POOL. Call a pool professional.
🌪️ AND MOST IMPORTANTLY:
If there is an active tornado warning, forget the pool. Get inside and stay safe. The pool can wait. Your family can’t.
