Completed in November of 2024, this multiphase $75 million affordable housing initiative of 17 new buildings, is solely electric powered and laid out to represent new urbanism concepts while adhering to state Housong and Community Renewal standards.

Windsor’s masterplan really took flight and improved beyond what we could have imagined working on our first project here over 20 years ago. KFA has seen through numerous projects that make up essentially the entirety of the campus with projects that include circulation improvements, athletic fields improvements, playground installations, entry courtyards, and the iconic bluestone inlaid walks. KFA is happy to announce our implemented design at has received the 2025 Honor Award by the for Small Scale Built Design. KFA helped activate an understated and uninspired entry and courtyard space, transforming it into a campus asset that is visually clear to visitors, energizing for students and staff, and seen as a good investment from the district. After several iterations, the hexagonal scheme was developed to create harmonizing elements similar to that of the interior improvements, highlighting the school’s identity and strengthening the overall brand. The courtyard features LED lit custom benches, repeating hive motifs, pedestrian bollard lighting, and landscaping improvements. Project Managers Christian Freeman, Nathan LaPierre, and Vincent Ryan have been named Principal Associates and will take on additional leadership roles with the company.
Christian Freeman, a 2017 Graduate of SUNY ESF, brings a wealth of experience, including high-profile projects across Massachusetts, Kentucky, and New York. His past work includes commercial, residential, education, and hospitality projects. His master planning, modeling, and graphic rendering skills have provided clients with opportunities to market projects before construction. This pairs well with municipal approvals and KFA’s detail-oriented construction documentation approach. He has been licensed since August of 2022.
Nathan LaPierre, a 2014 Graduate of SUNY ESF, is known for his meticulous attention to detail and project management expertise. His passion for construction and real-world site work experience provides essential value to the company, which is visible in his completed work. He has been a cornerstone at KFA, designing and implementing a range of projects including K-12 schools, residential, mixed-use commercial, healthcare facilities, and industrial manufacturing projects. He has been licensed since February 2019.
Vincent Ryan, a 2017 Graduate of SUNY ESF, has been an active member of the Landscape Architecture community since achieving licensure in February 2023. He is heavily involved in the Upstate Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects as Vice President of External Affairs and chair of the Awards Committee. His technical expertise and problem-solving skills have been crucial in delivering successful solutions for various projects, from multi-phase urban redevelopment initiatives to design and approvals for residential communities.

The Villages at Stoney Creek was recently completed in 2023, a project KFA moved from concept to close out. The mixed apartment unit development is dedicated to the employees of the Oneida Indian Nation & Turning Stone Enterprises, providing them with modern living spaces and an expansive community layout. Shuttles connect the 11-building campus to the nearby Turning Stone and associated businesses.

KFA was thrilled to attend the Gala event for the Jon Diaz Community Center, a space that will be dedicated to unity, learning, and growth in Nedrow, NY. Leading this project is Buffalo Bills Running Back and Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame member whose passion for sports and dedication to the community has been evident in his hands on approach in the planning of this project since our office’s first napkin sketches in early 2021.  Design of the 4.9 acre site balances educational facilities with ample active space - from basketball to yoga and everything in between. The May 4th Gala was a great success being well attended and raising project fundraising to an impressive $4.5 million!

KFA’s Vincent Ryan hosted the Annual Awards Dinner for the New York Upstate Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (NYU-ASLA) this past week at the Palladian Event Space in Downtown Syracuse. The dinner celebrates the achievements of landscape architecture professionals over the past year across several design categories including built, unbuilt, research & communications, planning & analysis, and historic preservation. The Chapter held a Continuing Education Hour the following morning and toured the interior and exterior improvements to Marshall Hall at SUNY-ESF. KFA congratulates all the award winners and looks forward to next year's event.
