Most people think of mulch as just wood chips or bark.

But in nature, mulch is actually living plants.
This is called living mulch.

Planting groundcovers and native plants close together so they shade the soil and work together as a natural system.
Instead of constantly replacing wood mulch every year, living mulch:

• protects and cools the soil
• suppresses weeds naturally
• improves soil health
• supports pollinators and wildlife
• holds moisture during dry periods

This is one of the many ways we sustainably care for our clients properties.

Pruning doesn’t stop in winter.

The dormant season is actually the ideal time of year to care for overgrown shrubs, as well as trimming low-hanging tree branches.
With the leaves gone, we can clearly see plant structure and make precise cuts that support long-term health.

Winter pruning helps rejuvenate older shrubs, reduces the risk of insect and disease issues that often show up in summer, and encourages fresh new growth come spring.

Removing low or crowded tree branches also improves light pe*******on, air circulation, and helps prevent damage from snow and ice.

If you have overgrown shrubs or low-hanging trees that need attention, now is the time. Reach out to schedule dormant-season pruning this winter and enjoy the benefits when spring returns.

A healthy yard isn’t just something you look at, it’s something that functions.

When landscapes are cared for with intention, they become places where plants, people, and wildlife can coexist.
Our yard care program is rooted in this belief, guiding each decision we make throughout the seasons.

When these systems are cared for thoughtfully, they naturally begin supporting more life.
The result is a yard that feels alive, and continues to give something back, year after year.

Happy New Year! Quick reflection & gratitude post here.

We want to take this moment to thank all of our clients for trusting us with your lawns & landscapes and supporting a more thoughtful, ecological approach to yard care.

This past year reinforced the value of patience, observation, and working with the land through the seasons, and we’re grateful for the relationships built along the way.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to long-term stewardship and caring for outdoor spaces in a way that supports both people and the natural world.

If your red twig dogwood has lost its signature winter color, it’s usually not because something is "wrong", it's because of age.

These shrubs have their brightest winter color on young stems. As branches mature, bark naturally darkens and fades. The solution is simple, intentional pruning.

Each winter:
•remove about 1/3 of the oldest stems at the base
•preserve the youngest, most vibrant growth
•repeat yearly for consistent renewal

This approach respects the shrubs natural growth cycle. Pruned this way, red twig dogwoods remain healthy and provide balanced winter interest.

Organic lawn care is part of what we do, but it’s never the whole picture.
Every yard is a living system. The soil, plants, beneficial wildlife, and seasonal rhythms all working together.

Our approach focuses on long-term health, not quick fixes. That means thoughtful mowing, intentional pruning, and allowing space for gardens and habitat to thrive alongside the lawn.

This is what we mean by yard stewardship.
