RO Garden Club

RO Garden Club The former goal of the RO Garden Club was to grow organic crops for the Easton Food Pantry. This Page is privately run by a recently retired Easton educator.

That garden is now gone, so starting this fall of 2024, the new goal will be to teach basic gardening skills and Keep RO Beautiful!

THAT’S A WRAP‼️
Perfect weather for the last day of fall RO Garden Club! After we enjoyed some pumpkin donuts and apple cider, we headed out front to w**d and cleanup “Debbie’s Way”, a path dedicated to a wonderful teacher who suddenly passed away in 2009. She is dearly missed. We found a bird nest in the tree along the path and one creepy crawler.

To wrap it up, the Crew enjoyed some much deserved fun on the new playground.

Many thanks to Corey Palm for his donation of mulch around the front RO sign! See you in the spring! ☮️

DAFFODIL DAY!
It was beautiful weather to plant our daffodils- all 175 bulbs! Three different varieties were planted out back in the blue pots, but we saved some to plant out front by the RO sign.

First we taught the Crew how to plant (pointy side up!) and how deep. Each had their own bulb planter so that made the work quicker! Then we added a layer of mulch to each pot (many thanks to Barbara Anderson for the 6 bags of mulch!) and finally we finished the bulb planting out front.

Of course, the Crew ended the hour on the carousel- FUN! One more meeting. See you next week! ☮️

WE DID IT!!
With perfect weather today (Wednesday), we finalized the planting of fall flowers at the entrance to RO. Many thanks to Langwater Farm for the lovely little yellow mums that add a perfect pop of color!! Lots of water was added and a bit more w**ding was done. Hopefully mulch will be added in the near future!

The Crew worked with intense passion, so they ended up with a well-deserved break on the playground carousel!

Next week we should be planting a multitude of daffodil bulbs in the huge blue pots out back and maybe some out front. See you then! ☮️

The RO Garden Club Crew worked hard today!
We w**ded, planted, watered, laughed and learned out front again by the RO entrance sign. Our plants today were 3 lovely purple asters, a perennial that should come back and bloom every autumn. Thanks to G. Norwood Garden Center for a great discount!! 🤩

Perhaps when the daffodil bulbs arrive, we will add some to this space, although most are going out back in the beautiful blue pots! 🙂

**If anyone would like to donate a few YELLOW or ORANGE mums for this space, please Message me here or through my home page Monica Hurley Lawson. ☮️

Whew! We worked hard today!
The goal was to prune and w**d as much as possible around the RO sign out front. Perfect temp for all the ground we covered. We even found a lucky ladybug! Packed it up (cute video in comments) and had a quick chat and breathing exercise.

Plenty more to do there next week, including hopefully planting a few purple asters. Green and purple- RO colors! ☮️

The Club is Back!!
Just a small group of kiddos this fall. They were 3rd graders back in the spring of 2023 before the existing food garden had to be removed because of the new playground. So glad to have them back! 😁

Today was a basic cleanup- mostly w**ding, some pruning and sweeping! Perfect day weather wise and all were in great spirits! Stay tuned for more, including planting bulbs and flowers. Maybe even some herbs. There’s a lot of ground to cover around the school! ☮️

Hi all,
The garden at RO is going to be removed. It’s very frustrating that I was never asked about or able to weigh in on the plans for the new playground. I would have advocated for it to remain where it is had I ever known it would be “excavated”. Alas, sometimes I win, but this one I lost.

I’ve salvaged what plants I could, but you are welcome to take any remaining plants starting this evening and all weekend. (Bring pots and a trowel!) Construction of the new playground starts Monday June 19, so everything needs to go before then, per Chris Getchell.

Thank you so much for all of your posts, your calls, and your e-mails to EPS administrators and others, and for your loving support to try to keep the garden in its cozy corner!

Now, go save those remaining plants! (There are other items there as well.) First come, first served. ☮️

UPDATE: 6/09 They are working on solutions to save the garden. 🤞🤞🤞

A productive and relaxing last day for the 5th graders, and a close to the spring RO Garden Club, but…

**The garden may not exist after June 19th unless we can save it‼️I was told it would be removed by then because of the new SWINGS being installed there this summer. This is appalling and should not be allowed to happen. ☹️

**This is not OK‼️

It has been my pleasure to lead and teach the very fine members of the RO Garden Club to become stewards of the Easton community! Enjoy the pics. ☮️

It was a hot one today‼️🌞
After watering the beds, most of us got sprayed with the hose to cool off! 💦 We finally planted the bell pepper, basil, and zinnia seedlings. 🌺 Some kiddos tried a chive flower, but only a couple of them liked it! It is a tad spicy but they are delicious in salads! 🥗

More w**ding was done around the beds (it never ends 😩) and several kiddos joined me out front to w**d “Debbie’s Way”. ❤️The garden is growing well‼️
See ya next week for our last meeting! ☮️
