Paeonia ‘Bartzella’ (Itoh Peony). With an above-average blooming ability, award-winner Itoh Peony ‘Bartzella’ features very large and luminous, golden yellow, semi to fully double flowers, 6-8 in. wide (15-20 cm), delicately flushed scarlet at their heart.
Borne in profusion (expect 30 blossoms the first year and over 60 on a mature bush!), they are well presented above the foliage, on strong, erect stems that do not require staking.
This late mid-season peony is fragrant with a lovely lemon scent. Up to 30-36 in. tall.

This is one of the things we do best. Big Japanese Maples. Best time to dig is just before they break bud (early April here). Once root pruned and ball & burlapped we let this one sit until time allowed. Yesterday was moving day to new location on property. Maybe the nicest one so far. 15’ spread.

We sometimes forget that besides the visual beauty of a garden, fragrance can evoke pleasant memories and add to the overall enjoyment by allowing us to experience the garden even with our eyes closed. These five flowering plants can add fragrance to your garden. Rose with many varieties, each with their own signature scent. Gardenia, while may not be winter hardy in your northern zone, can be used as a fragrant summer container plant on patios, or front porches. Hyacinth one of the few early spring flowers has an abundance of a sweet honey, like scent. Korean Spice Viburnum produces dark, pink buds that open to globe like clusters of tiny white flowers that gives off a clove like scent similar to spiced cake. Peony, like roses, have unique individual scents, some stronger than others, and the fragrance can range from light and citrusy to sweet and spicy. Maybe it’s time to add some fragrant flowering plants to your garden this year. , , , , , , , , ,

A Rose by Another Name…Oso Easy Italian Ice® by Proven Winner

This variety rebels against the idea that roses are hard to grow! No spraying, no deadheading, just lots of flowers all season long!Similar to 'Peace' in its coloration, the orange buds of rose open to soft yellow flowers melting into pink blushed margins. The soft flower color is set off nicely by its dark green, glossy foliage. Flowers are semi-doubled, with 24-30 petals per bloom. This self-cleaning rose has excellent disease-resistance, abundant flowers, and a nice habit, making it an excellent plant for home gardens.

During winter there are hardy shrubs that can still bring beauty and color to your landscape. Evergreen shrubs bring life to dreary winter landscapes with their lush greenery. Like coniferous evergreens, evergreen shrubs create an everlasting framework for seasonal garden plantings. Some spring-flowering evergreen shrubs also produce attractive colorful berries in the fall, broadening their year-round appeal. heath Holly

Made in the Shade. One of the basic rules for successful gardening is "right plant, right place." If you're struggling to find the "right plant" for a "shady place," these plants can help. Hostas, one of the most fool-proof plants for shade gardens, come in a variety of colors, shapes, sizes, and textures—offering endless design possibilities. For a nearly endless choice of foliage colors, patterns and forms, coral bells (Heuchera) fits the bill. From lemon yellow to nearly black, there’s a hue to match every garden palette. Ferns are some of the oldest living plants, dating back to the age of the dinosaurs. A must-have addition to any woodland or shade garden, these reliable perennials are grown for their attractive fronds that lend texture and form to the landscape. For an exotic feel in the garden, few plants rival the bold impact of angel wings (Caladium). Made popular as a Victorian conservatory plant, this tropical annual is grown for its arrow-shaped leaves in hues from pure white to multi-colored variegation. One of the most popular summer annuals is coleus (Plectranthus, syn. Solenostemon), grown for its foliage that comes in a never-ending array of patterns, forms and colors. Coleus prefer rich soil that drains well and regular water, and can easily be reproduced from cuttings. One of the few ornamental grasses that thrives in shade is Japanese forest grass (Hakonechloa macra). This deciduous perennial grows in low, mounding clumps. Golden or variegated species are valuable for lighting up darker areas with their foliage.
