I would like to thank the more than 4000 people who voted for me in the City Council election. I am sorry to say I must concede to the victors. Carry on and work for the better of Eau Claire.

Remember to vote on April 2nd …The history of the world depends on you! Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean. Please vote Kirk Ausman for Eau Claire City Council.

In the 1990's I chaired the committee that changed the make up of the city council in order to guard against partisan control of city government. I have a long history of trying to keep city government nonpartisan. We are on the brink of a pivotal election, and I am hoping that our experiment in creating checks and balances in city government will pass the test. Please vote on April 2nd!

I just finished going door to door, campaigning in what can only be described as typical March weather. The temperature hovering around freezing and the wind howling at 30 MPH. It’s all good, visiting my old neighborhood and getting a warm welcome from the fine people on the North Side. I would like to thank everyone for spreading the news and getting their friends out to vote. Running for office is a great way to meet people and renew ones faith in the public.

The snow emergency dilemma has popped up again! I live in a neighborhood were any one with two vehicles has to park at least one in the street. When the old odd – even every day was in place it was easy to forget a day and end up with a ticket. I felt as many do that this is an unfair tax on a poorer, older neighborhood. The best reason for every day odd – even parking is apparent, even after roads are plowed it is hard to get bye when cars are parked on both sides. A possible solution is to go back to every day odd – even parking, but give law enforcement the discretion to give warnings when there is not a snow emergency. This would cut down on the number of inadvertent or uninformed violators getting citations.

In the 1990's I chaired the committee that changed the make up of the city council in order to guard against partisan factions attempting to control city government. I have a long history of trying to keep city government nonpartisan. For the past few months I have been taking a daily walk through the old State Theater, making sure the heat was on and the doors secure. I am happy to report that my stewardship has ended with the sale of the grand old complex. Look for upcoming announcements to find out what will happen next. It’s all good!

What direction will Eau Claire take in the next ten years? Vision Eau Claire has a great track record of outlining possible paths to our future. It is up to all of us to get behind projects we believe in, making dreams become reality.

The redevelopment of the downtown goes on, prompted by the Confluence project. If you happen to go down Graham Ave. you can’t help but notice that another old building has been removed right next to the new Art Center. Let’s be positive and good things will happen.
