Most of my work happens long before I ever apply a treatment.

Walking properties.
Collecting data.
Sampling habitat.
Finding pressure.

Ticks don't appear randomly.
They live and move through specific environments:
wooded edges, dense vegetation, stone walls, leaf litter, and shaded transition zones.

By understanding where ticks are living and how they're moving through a property, I'm able to determine where protection is needed most and where botanical barriers will have the greatest impact.

The goal isn't to guess.

The goal is to understand the habitat, reduce pressure, and help protect the spaces people and pets use every day.

Most tick problems don't start in the lawn.

They start in the shaded edges, leaf litter, overgrown vegetation, and wooded transition zones surrounding it.
This property had all the conditions ticks love: tall grass, accumulated leaves, fallen branches, and dense habitat that allowed ticks to thrive.

During this assessment, I used habitat sampling techniques to collect live ticks directly from the property, including Lone Star ticks, Blacklegged (deer) ticks, and nymph-stage ticks.

I don't believe in guessing.

I believe in understanding where ticks are living, how they're moving through a property, and creating targeted botanical barriers around those areas.

That's why every Harbor & Hive program begins with a property assessment.

One thing I've noticed this season:

When I'm performing assessments on untreated properties, it's not unusual for me to find ticks on myself while walking wooded edges, transition zones, and wildlife corridors.

But on properties that have already received multiple Harbor & Hive treatments, I rarely experience the same thing.

Every property is different, and no treatment can eliminate all tick activity, but it's one of the reasons I believe consistency matters.

Our goal isn't to blanket spray entire properties.

We focus on the areas where ticks actually live and travel:

In this demonstration, I'm showcasing two of the core botanical ingredients used in Harbor & Hive treatments: cedarwood and high-purity geraniol.

The tick immediately avoided the geraniol-treated area, and in a separate demonstration, direct contact produced a much stronger response.
