Thomas Earl Smith, 68, of Columbus, Indiana, died Friday, August 21, 2026, of kidney failure at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 19, 1957 in Detroit, MI to Kenneth and Virginia (Carney) Smith.

On December 27, 1980, he married Beverly Lee Pijut at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Birmingham, Michigan.

Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit and later a master’s degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. He was a gifted engineer who worked on advanced projects for several companies, including Northrop Defense Systems, Texas Instruments and Accurate Technologies, Inc.

The most important thing in his life was his faith. He earnestly desired to share Jesus Christ with others to the very end.

He was a loving father who enjoyed working side by side with his family—fixing cars and boats, building a house, and making circuit boards. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and exploring the forest.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his sons, Christopher Smith of Euless, TX, David (Laura) Smith of Commerce Township, MI, and Daniel (Lindie) Smith of Columbus, IN; and eleven grandchildren, Elijah, Emerson, Benjamin, Judah, Isaac, Hannah, Nathan, Clayton, Tyler, Stephanie, and Skylan; as well as eleven siblings: Jim, Kathy, Patty, Lucy, Susy, Mary, Judy, Gerry, Matthew Peter and Marty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sibling in infancy, and one granddaughter.

Willow Rayne Crawford, 13, of Edinburgh, passed away on July 25, 2026. She was born June
19, 2013, in Indianapolis.

Willow made her home with her grandparents, Rocky and Rebecca Hodges, who lovingly raised and cared for her. She is survived by her mother, Sarah Romans; great-grandmother, Phyllis Weesner of Marion; brothers, Michael D. Crawford and Chase L. Crawford, both of Edinburgh; Uncle Donald (Melissa) Sizemore of Marion; Aunt Heather Lents of Indianapolis; Aunt Heather (Matt) Wharff of Iowa; Aunt Stacie (Ryan) Young of Iowa; Aunt Erin Marie Lutz of Indianapolis; Uncle Jeremiah Rimer of Indianapolis; Dylan (Britt) Hodges of Ft. Willow was a sweet and fierce young lady who packed a big punch into her thirteen years. She loved her family deeply, treasured her friendships, and brought plenty of personality and determination to the things she loved.

Athletics were a big part of Willow’s life. She began playing softball through Edinburgh Parks and Recreation when she was just six years old, and the game quickly became one of her passions. Over the years, she played two seasons with Indiana Xtreme and Edinburgh Chaos. She played softball for Edinburgh Middle School, and most recently with Lady Griz. Willow was also a cheerleader for seven years and played basketball for Edinburgh Middle School and became a member of Indiana Hustl Amburgey softball team.

Away from the ball field and gym, Willow loved being outdoors and having adventures. She enjoyed swimming and boating, horseback riding, being at the lake with her brothers Michael and Chase, cousins Ella and Dani, and taking Jeep trail rides with her grandpa. She was always ready for a little excitement and was never afraid of a theme park thrill ride. She especially loved spending time with her dog Bella.

Willow’s thirteen years were far too brief, but they were filled with family, friendships, ball games, adventures, laughter, and many memories that will remain precious to those who knew and loved her.

Her loss is also grieved by the church family at Christ Fellowship Church. Pastor Paul A. Burton will officiate Willow’s funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2026, in the gymnasium of the Edinburgh Community High School. Family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at the high school.

A committal service and burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Rest Haven Cemetery, Edinburgh. Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Funeral Care, Edinburgh.

Clifford Ray Lawson, 71, of Edinburgh, passed away July 15, 2026. He was born October 23, 1954, in Franklin to the late Clifford Leon and Delphia Louise (Harris) Lawson. He married Ruth Elaine (Stinson) Lawson on November 13, 1987, in Franklin, and she survives.

Clifford was a master-level concrete foreman for many years. He loved racing and watching his grandchildren play sports. His family was his passion, and he will be missed by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sons, Jason (Christi) Lawson; Brock Willard; daughter, Paige Jones; sister, Rhoda Burton; 8 grandchildren, Tyler Despain, Hannah Emerson, Sydney Lawson, Jantzen Gravelin, Corbin Burton, Gracie Lawson, Axel Jones, and Abel Jones, and 6 great-grandchildren, Oakland, Ledger, Reese, Xander, Bryer, and Eva. He was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Lawson, and sister, Rosemary Lawson.

Stephen Cox will conduct a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.(noon) on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Who So Ever Will Community Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Edinburgh. William Scott “Bill” McIntosh, 76, of Franklin, passed away July 4, 2026. He was born August 6, 1949, in Beech Grove, Indiana, to the late Lawrence Gilbert and Nelda Marie (Warrenburg) McIntosh. He married Rosetta Andrews on December 7, 1967, in Tennessee and she preceded him in death May 1, 1992. He later married Sharon Kelly on June 22, 1996, in Franklin, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on December 24, 2025. Bill is survived by his sons William (Donna) McIntosh, of Franklin, and Mike (Juanita) McIntosh, of Edinburgh; daughters, Tanya Moler, of Edinburgh, and Marietta “Mary” (Carlos) Canino, of Texas; brothers John (Nita) McIntosh, of Bargersville, Jim (Tammy) McIntosh, of Nashville, and Lebert McIntosh, of Nashville; sisters, Nelda June McClain, and Janice Warner, of Knearny, Nebraska; step daughters, Sherie Beck, of Tuscan, Arizona, and Sabrina McCammon, of Portland, Indiana; step son, Garry Kelly, of Portland, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Larry McIntosh, and Lawrence G. McIntosh; son-in-law, John Moler; and sister-in-law, Wanda McIntosh. Bill was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A funeral service will be 12:00, Noon, Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Christ Fellowship Church, 125 Lind Drive, Edinburgh. Thomas Lee Petro, 74, of Trafalgar, passed away June 23, 2026. He was born October 13, 1951, in Franklin, Indiana, to the late William and Betty Lou (Yates) Petro. He is survived by his daughter, Anna Petro, of Trafalgar; son, Shaun Patterson, of Greenwood; brother, John (Andrea) Petro, of Nineveh; grandson, Jack Patterson; and nieces and nephews, Heather Petro, of Trafalgar, Nathan Petro, of Nineveh, and Jordan Petro, of Trafalgar. He dearly loved his cousin, Robert "Pettie" Petro and his sons, Dawson and Wesly. Pettie was like his brother, Thomas refuse to call him cousin, instead always referring to him as his brother. Thomas was a graduate of Indiana Creek, class of 1969 and was the youngest in the state as a third generation watch maker. He was a skilled watch and clock maker for 47 years, self-employed with his father for 12 of those 47 years. Thomas was a beloved father, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Private arrangements were entrusted to Community Funeral Care, Edinburgh.

William “Bill” Burton Pitts, age 90, recently of New Albany, IN, was born July 19, 1935, and passed away on June 13, 2026 after a very short illness.

Bill was preceded in death by the love of his life and bride of 65 years, Virgie Pitts; his sons Doug Pitts and Brad Pitts; his father and mother Jesse W and Frances Pitts; his sisters Carolyn Pitts Rhodes, Patricia Pitts McCann, and Linda Pitts Six; his in-laws, Helen Sunman-Mutz, and Everett Sunman; and his great-granddaughters Talia Pitts and Ava Pitts.

Survivors include his sons Chris (Mary Jo) and Steve (Julie) Pitts, his daughter-in-law Stacey Pitts; as well as his sister-in-law, Sue Dolson (Rob); his grandchildren Eric (Laura), Jacqueline, Braden (Taylor), Ethan, Claire, Benjamin, Michael, Nick, Sarah and their mother, Deb; and his great-grandchildren Lilly, Eli, Kaylee, Kelsey, Milo, and Levi Pitts, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

The funeral service for Bill will be held on Saturday June 27, 2026 at the Edinburgh Methodist Church, 301 Main Street, Edinburgh, Indiana 46124. The visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 2:00pm, with the service at 2pm and burial immediately following at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, IN. All are invited to join us for fellowship and food immediately following the burial service at the church. We will also be having memorial services at Silvercrest, where he lived recently, as well as Tellico Village in Tennessee where he and Virgie lived for over 30 years at dates later to be determined.

JV McShirley, 72, of Edinburgh, Indiana, passed away May 9, 2026, of natural causes while in his home. He was born November 8, 1953, in New Castle, to the late John Victor and Mary Margaret (Sears) McShirley. He married Noname Porter-McShirley on January 28, 2002, in Michigan, and she survives, residing in Edinburgh, Indiana. He is also survived by his son, Erik McShirley, of Columbus, Indiana. JV was preceded in death by his brother, James McShirley. JV touched an untold number of lives over several decades, primarily though his love of books, and he maintained numerous life-long friendships. Throughout his college years, numerous odd jobs, and his self-shaped career of selling used books, JV was known for generously surprising many people with gifts of books, movies, and music that matched their interests. Private arrangements have been entrusted to Community Funeral Care, Edinburgh. Family and friends will hold a private gathering in June to share memories.
