Charleston County opens applications for Well, Septic Tank, and Connection Program. The link is provided below.

Charleston County Council has approved Urban Entitlement Community Block Grants (CDBG) and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to provide Charleston County homeowners with safe and clean water and sewer systems by providing the following services:

✅Repair or replacement of failing or inoperable well and septic systems
✅Connection to public utility infrastructure where available

Charleston County's Community Development Department uses federal grant funding to pay for upgrades to eligible well and septic systems in Charleston County.

Did you know? Septic tanks are required to have inlet and outlet tees/baffles to regulate wastewater flow and protect your drain field. The inlet tee must extend 16 inches below the liquid level. The outlet tee must extend 18 inches below the liquid level. (SCDES Regulation 61-56, 503.3)

Inlet tees/baffles direct incoming liquids downward. This prevents the force of a flushed toilet or running sink from disturbing the floating scum layer.
Outlet tees/baffles aid to prevent grease, oils, and solids from coming directly out of the tank into the drain field causing failure.

These tees/baffles are not only required by SCDES but are, along with proper tank maintenance, vital to extending the life of your drain field! We inspect the inlet and outlet tees/baffles every time we pump your septic tank. This is not just to stay up to code but to protect you, your investment and the environment.

Get on our 💩 list to ensure your system is maintained properly and tank components are in good shape or even present. Preventative maintenance is much more economically priced than system failure and repair.

When this happens, solids may not break down properly, which can lead to faster buildup and, over time, potential damage to your system—especially the drain field.

Having your septic system inspected and keeping it maintained is often overlooked. I’m guilty of it! Aren’t we all?!
