This month we are thrilled to share that Plaid Rooster Coffee Roaster is The Curbing Edge’s Business of the Month for August! Plaid Rooster, led by Robin Goforth focuses on a healthy, traceable coffee option that shines the light onto the farmers the coffee beans come from.

So often we get into the rush of life— instead of enjoying the little things, we rush past them. We don’t necessarily enjoy our morning cup of coffee; we drink it because we need it. Big coffee brands have taught us what coffee is “supposed” to taste like: bland, bitter, and sharp.

But when you find farms that don’t use pesticides or chemicals, hand pick and sort their beans daily, and are dried to a certain percentage of moisture, you get something with true flavor. Not the burnt taste of the coffee inside that big red tub, but notes of strawberry, chamomile, almonds. Flavors that aren’t just on the package.

Coffee is more than just coffee. The relationship between farm and roaster, roaster and coffee shop, coffee shop and barista, barista and customer… Coffee is a gateway to connection, all starting at the very beginning, with the families who run the farms.

For Robin, her eyes were opened to the simple and happy lifestyle the coffee farmers lead in Nicaragua when she visited the first time. She realized her mission for Plaid Rooster held some of the same values the farmers did. Go learn everything, do it right, keep it simple and happy.

A final message Robin shared: “Know the story behind the coffee you drink.” Every farmer, roaster, and coffee shop, barista, and coffee enjoyer has a mission, a story.
