Great Plains Construction (GPC) was founded in 2007 by Brannon Ward in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A diversified service company headquartered in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Since its inception, the company has grown from two employees and a backhoe to over 50 employees and a large fleet of heavy earthwork equipment. Great Plains Construction strives to perform top quality work at competitive prices to customers in many different fields of construction. Great Plains performs work in the entire state of Oklahoma as well as regionally in Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado, and Arkansas. Our company provides services to our customers through civil and industrial construction.

You can spend weeks getting a site graded just right. One good Oklahoma downpour can make a mess of it.

That’s why erosion control isn’t a one-and-done job.

When you’re working with acres of exposed soil, you’ve got to think about where the water is going when the rain starts falling.

Erosion control measures help manage runoff, keep sediment from leaving the site, and protect the work that’s already been done.

But as excavation and grading progress, drainage patterns can change. That means those measures need to be inspected, maintained, and sometimes adjusted as the job moves forward.

This drone flyover gives you a pretty good idea of the amount of ground we’re managing on a project like this. Moving dirt is one thing.,.keeping it where it belongs is another.

You might wonder what the first things we look for when they arrive at a new jobsite.

And believe it or not it's not where we are going to start moving dirt first...

Before equipment starts rolling, there are a few things that need to be checked.

First, we want to verify existing utilities and make sure the initial survey matches what's actually on the ground. We also look for any potential safety hazards and figure out the safest way to access the site and bring in our equipment.

It might not be the most exciting part of a project, but these early checks can save a whole lot of headaches down the road.

Every site is different, and knowing what we're walking into is a pretty important part of getting started on the right foot.

Meet some of our specialized earth-moving equipment. This is our John Deere 9520 Scraper Special.

When you’ve got a whole lot of dirt to move, having the right equipment makes a difference.

The 9520 is a four-wheel-drive tractor built for heavy-duty scraper applications. It’s designed to pull large scraper loads, giving our crews the power and traction needed to move significant amounts of material across a jobsite.

On large earthwork projects, scraper operations can be an efficient way to cut, haul, and spread material without relying on separate equipment for every step.

It’s a big machine built for big dirt work, and it’s right at home in our fleet.

A lot of work goes into what we do every day, but sometimes it's just plain cool to see it from a different angle.

Not every problem with dirt means the dirt has to go.

Soil stabilization is an important part of our earthwork scope because it allows us to improve subgrade conditions and increase the bearing capacity of on-site soils.

Depending on the conditions and project requirements, stabilization can turn existing material into a stronger, more workable subgrade capable of supporting what comes next.

That can mean less unsuitable material to remove, less replacement material to haul in, and a better-performing base for the project.

Sometimes good earthwork isn't about moving more dirt.

It's about improving the dirt that's already there.

Good operators know their machines. Good mechanics know how to keep them running.

But the best results happen when the two work together.

Our operators are the ones spending hours in the seat, so they're often the first to notice when something sounds, feels or operates differently. That communication gives our mechanics a head start on finding the problem, making the repair and getting the machine back to work.

It keeps our equipment in better shape, helps prevent bigger problems and keeps our jobs moving.

Two different jobs. Same team.

14,800+ dump truck loads.

That's how much material GPC exported from just five acres during our work on the Innovation District in Oklahoma City.

Our scope included excavation for the future parking garage and building, along with perimeter grading for roads, sidewalks and the building pad.

Once the excavation was complete, approximately 230 semi loads of aggregate went back into the site.

Five acres may not sound enormous, but the numbers tell a different story.

•14,800+ dump truck loads exported
•Approximately 230 semi loads of aggregate placed
•5 acres of sitework
