As fall slowly gives way to winter, we’re reminded just how beautiful change can be.

The same home, the same setting—transformed by the season. Golden leaves give way to snow, light shifts, and the landscape takes on an entirely different character.

One of the things we love most about mountain architecture is the way a home can feel grounded in place while changing with the world around it.

A home designed to push the limits.

From a subterranean spa and four-story cantilevered staircase to a suspended lap pool overlooking the Gore Range, this Vail residence brought together bold ideas, precise engineering, and close collaboration to create something truly one of a kind.

Revisit this Mountain Living feature for a look at three of the home’s most daring design elements.

Architecture isn’t just about what you see. It’s about how you feel.

A space designed to make you exhale.

At our Frost Creek Residence, the great room feels open, calm, and deeply connected to its surroundings. Expansive views and natural light create a sense of ease, while the scale of the space invites you to settle in, gather, and stay awhile.

It’s the kind of room that makes you slow down and appreciate where you are.

Designed for the way life unfolds.

This Beaver Creek Residence was conceived as more than a collection of beautiful spaces. It’s a home designed around how its owners live—where gathering and entertaining feel effortless, quiet spaces offer a sense of retreat, and the surrounding mountain landscape is always part of the experience.

Expansive windows bring in natural light and views, while warm materials create a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere throughout. From the main living spaces and outdoor terraces to areas dedicated to wellness, music, and relaxation, each part of the home contributes to a larger whole.

Because the most meaningful homes aren’t simply designed to be looked at. They’re designed to be lived in.

Great homes are the result of many talented hands.

This Labor Day, we’re grateful for the builders, craftspeople, engineers, consultants, tradespeople, and design professionals who turn ideas on paper into places people can call home.

The best work comes from collaboration, attention to detail, and a shared commitment to doing things well. We’re fortunate to work alongside incredible teams who bring skill, care, and craftsmanship to every project.

Happy Labor Day from Berglund Architects.

Designed for two—or twenty.

This long-held family property was reimagined as a single-family home designed to adapt to the rhythms of an expanding, multigenerational family.

When the owners are there on their own, the home feels comfortable and intimate. When children, grandchildren, family and friends arrive, generous gathering spaces, outdoor living areas and entertaining spaces allow the house to come alive without ever feeling overcrowded.

At the same time, quieter spaces provide places to retreat and recharge, even when the house is full.

The result is a home designed not just for the way the family lives today, but for the memories, traditions and generations still to come.

The best mountain homes don’t just capture the view. They make you feel connected to it.

Inside our Aldasoro Residence in Telluride, expansive glass, natural materials, warm wood, stone and exposed steel create spaces that feel sophisticated yet relaxed. Throughout the home, the architecture and interiors work together to draw the landscape in, filling the rooms with natural light and framing the surrounding mountains.

The result is a home that feels both grounded in its rugged setting and comfortable for everyday living—designed around the way our clients wanted to experience this remarkable place.

A well-designed bathroom can change the way you begin and end your day.

These are some of the most personal spaces in a home—places to slow down, recharge, and step away from the demands of everyday life. Natural light, views, tactile materials, warmth, and privacy all contribute to a sense of calm and comfort.

As part of the homes we design, bathrooms are considered not simply for how they look, but for how they make you feel. Thoughtful design can turn an everyday routine into a restorative experience and contribute to a greater sense of wellbeing at home.

Which one is your favorite?

Designed for the view. Planned for privacy.

Set in the foothills west of Denver, this lakefront mountain modern home was shaped by two priorities: capturing expansive views of the lake and mountains while creating privacy from the neighboring homes and street.

The main living spaces are organized around a three-sided covered courtyard oriented toward the western views. Floor-to-ceiling windows and doors allow natural light to pour into the home while creating a seamless connection between the interiors and outdoor living spaces.

On the opposite side of the home, the entry, garage, mudroom, laundry and other supporting spaces form a buffer around the arrival court, creating a more private experience within.

Limestone, reclaimed wood, stucco, metal panels and exposed steel complete a durable material palette that feels naturally connected to its setting.
