Research with impact: Renato Aguilera, Ph.D., a professor in the Dept. of Biological Sciences in the UTEP College of Science, has helped identify a compound that can kill leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells, potentially paving the way for new therapies.

“This research not only had amazing results, it also led to the training of five Ph.D. students who are now working as postdoctoral fellows in research laboratories across the nation," Aguilera said.

We are pleased to announce that starting September 1, 2023 Dr. Charles Spencer will be serving as Interim Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences as we search for a new Chair.

We thank Dr. Bruce Cushing for his years of dedicated service to the Department as he returns to being a general faculty member at the end of August.
