IHC is wrapping up the final tie-ins on the 10" and 8" force mains to the screen structure — a critical step in bringing this system online. The concrete pours you see are thrust blocks, engineered to hold the line under high pressure and prevent any blowouts or breakaways in the system.

From past leadership to current ownership and every employee in between, giving back is not something IHC simply does — it is who we are. It is woven into our DNA, and we are honored to carry that tradition forward. It is a privilege to watch the seeds planted generations ago continue to grow and shape the Elgin community we are proud to call home.

Today, the Gail Borden Public Library District Foundation hosted a heartfelt donor appreciation luncheon celebrating the generous support from The Rakow Family and The Hoffer Foundation.

IHC was proud to have Jennifer Rakow, Director of Human Resources at IHC Construction Companies LLC, in attendance to represent the Rakow family at this special recognition.

IHC’s legacy of community investment is on full display here. IHC constructed the Gail Borden Library back in 2003, and in 2009, the Rakow Branch was opened in honor of community leaders Melvin E. "Pete" Rakow and May T. Rakow, both who served as past president of IHC (formerly IL Hydraulic Construction Company) in the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Former IHC Chairman, Tom Rakow, so perfectly put it at the original ribbon cutting ceremony for the library, "We think the library is critical to the well-being of the whole community."

Thank you to the Gail Borden Public LibraryDistrict Foundation for bringing together those who share a passion for learning, growth, and giving back. IHC is proud to be a part of the history of a library that continues to provide a vibrant place of learning, opportunity, and connection for its community. 💛 📚

🚧 Project Milestone: RT 14 Grade Separation – Barrington, IL 🚧

IHC has successfully completed the final major concrete pour for the US14 Box Culvert — a key milestone on the path to completion. This marks the first of two culverts that will divert Flint Creek around the upcoming US14 Underpass in Barrington. Great work to the IHC crew!

🚧 Progress Update: BNR Improvements – Aeration Basin Modifications | Four Rivers Sanitation Authority, Rockford 🚧

IHC crews are currently in active demolition within the second of four aeration tank sets. Once the suspended walkway is cleared, installation of new aeration equipment, mixers, pumps, and air supply piping will follow.

Excavation is also complete for a new prefabricated duct bank and cable tray system — the backbone that will deliver power to all upgraded equipment. Looking ahead, two new turbo blowers will be installed to supply air to the updated aeration systems, boosting treatment performance, reliability, and energy efficiency across the facility.

IHC is proud to support this critical infrastructure investment for the Rockford community. Stay tuned for more updates as the project continues to take shape. 👏

🚧 Progress Update 🚧 – MWRD Stickney Battery A & Battery B Mechanical Mixers

The IHC team reached a critical construction milestone with the successful pour of 198 cubic yards of concrete for the Transfer Slab, supported on micropiles. This structural element is essential for distributing loads evenly across the foundation, ensuring the long-term durability of the settling tanks and providing safe access for heavy vehicles and equipment. 🚧 Project Update 🚧 | Metra 115th St. Station & Parking Facilities

This project marks a complete reconstruction of the Metra 115th Street Station along the Historic Rock Island District — featuring two new warming shelters designed as a tribute to the original station depot that was lost to fire years ago.

In addition to the new shelters, IHC is delivering fully ADA-accessible infrastructure, three redesigned parking lots, and refreshed surrounding landscaping.

IHC and Metra are on track to open the parking lots to commuters by Memorial Day — well ahead of the Thanksgiving deadline.

Recent Progress ✅: As shown in the photos, crews have completed asphalt paving, lot striping, and concrete curb pours.
Up Next 🏗️️: Completion of the warming shelters.
