Q. WHAT IS AN ICE DAM??

A. An ice dam is a formation due to snow melting on your roof and running into your eaves and gutters. The water then refreezes and creates a ridge of ice on your gutters and roof. The ice dam creeps higher up your roof as more water freezes, typically called the "freeze-thaw" cycle, creating a barrier.
As the ice dam builds, it may block your gutters and prevent water drainage, creating an even larger ice dam as well as pools of water that can make their way into your roof and walls which cause significant damage and costly expenses:( .
