One easy way to ELEVATE your lawn this season is with pre-emergent herbicide. Like what I am spreading here, you can find it combined in fertilizer with nutrient rates perfect for your spring application. It is best applied before ground temperatures reach 50 degrees and crabgrass and other w**ds begin to germinate. A bit of advice I wish I learned earlier, is to apply pre-emergents two to three weeks before the recommended timeframe on the label. Often times I have found that even though the average air temperature may be below 50 degrees now, the ground in sunny areas warms up long enough to allow pesky crabgrass seeds to germinate much earlier than expected. Lastly, I will leave you with this, most pre-emergent herbicides are non selective. This means, they stop most all types of seed from germinating. Thus, you cannot apply this for several months before or closely after seeding turf.
