Do You Have Colorful Sense?
Whatever happen to fixing bleach stains? Taking color repair to become an IICRC Master Cleaner is likely the only reason most study this topic. So why is it that next to none go out and do it? Has the problem of replacing carpet due to color loss gone away? Let us examine that.
Nearly all color loss is found with nylon and wool. New installations in the residential market for nylon has dropped from a 60% plus majority to around 25%. However, in commercial installations, it is still holding a 51% market share. While this is a significant shift in the market, the problem is not a lack of opportunity to keep capable experts busy. The real problem is there are exceedingly few experts that can get consistent results. This means, the market is massive if you can get the proper training.
The reason is, most of the training has remained the same for 40 years. That is to say, some have the ‘gift’ and some don’t. The ‘gift’ was one could tell from appearance alone;
what cause the color loss?
How to neutralize the cause?
What colors to restore into the discoloration?
Science has been shouting at the industry that big breakthroughs have been made, but few listen or understand what it means. Simply put, anyone can acquire some simple tools with a couple of days training and then have the ability to do color repair far beyond what anyone has had since the business has started.
So, where are the facts to support this statement? They are really simple. All credible color repair instructors agree that the three basics of color repair are to:
identify the source of the problem,
neutralize it, and
apply the missing colors.
However, it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks. In other words, the vast majority of color repair trainers fail to support anything new. Nevertheless, the cutting-edge experts have written that color loss is due to chemical reactions of which two value systems can be used to determine the cause of all forms of color loss from nature or from chemical accidents. Those values systems are pH and ORP. While most instructors say they understand and have taught pH, the result is rubbish. Worse yet, you are really kidding yourself if you believe one can look at a colorloss and know the cause to the degree that makes money. Thus, two electronic meters give 100% accurate information on the cause of colorloss is and whether or not it is truly neutralized.
What about applying the missing color? Once again, science has overcome the limitations of humans to distinguish colors. It is called a color meter. Some think they have discovered the cure, but have they? Well color meters are nothing new. Photographers have been using them for years. Paint stores have also started allowing consumers to have perfect results with electronic color meters too. But the photographers and paint meters ARE NOT THE PROPER METERS FOR DYES!
How come you asked, the color theories for photography, dyes, and paints are all different. Photography or ‘light’ theory is based upon red, green, and blue being the primary hues. In this theory, white is possible, but not black. In the ‘paint’ or opaque theory, the primary colors are magenta, yellow, and cyan and its secondary hues are red, green, and blue. Once again, black cannot be made from the primarily hues. Dyes, on the other hand, are semi-translucent, and its primary hues are red, yellow, and blue. Black does exist in this theory. YOU CANNOT GET PROPER RESULTS WITH THE WRONG COLOR METER! Da!
Therefore, let us gets some common sense so that we can have some color sense. There is no doubt that by taking the right training for color repair, you can finally do what no one has been able to do in the past. In addition, the same knowledge will advance your knowledge of stain removal of the same degree.
