Little Lehigh Lumber

Little Lehigh Lumber We have a very large selection of solar kiln dried local hardwoods including many wide walnut crotches and natural edge slabs. Let us know how we can help you.

This will be our twelfth year of operations this year for our sawmill and solar kiln. Wherever possible, I will include a crotch or book match so any project will simply have the finest materials to complete breathtaking woodworkings. All of our wood goes through a slow, gentle process of our solar kiln, which produces about 4 loads per year. Most people prefer the stability of solar dried wood, as it creates a more stable lumber. We have 5/4 inch thick boards of walnut, hickory and ash.

Help us reduce our slabs, boards, and finished furniture.
We have such varied pieces of all shapes and sizes.
We cut for unique lumber. Each board was processed to bring out its character.
And yes we have plain walnut, ash, hickory, spalted sycamore, and wide butternut too.
All wood has been locally cut, and each slab has a story
We do appointments.
Look forward to sharing our lumber for your perfect pieces.

One of the nice things about solar kiln drying our walnut crotches is that the colors stay in the wood. The purples, pinks, greens, reds, tans, and browns have irredecence qualities with different viewing angles.

We had a busy day unloading massive and perfect walnut slabs from the kiln. They all came out flat, not warped with very minimal cracks due to the very slow drying process. They are big enough to be a table on their own, or bookmatched them for a massively wide table.
These are ready to go, and we have quite a few to pick from. These came from local trees including one from the Wildlands Conservancy in Emmaus, just across the river from us.
Legs are getting easier with so many companies offering metal legs, so making tables has become a breeze. We have made many with metal legs now.
We cut some wide Kentucky coffee bean for legs also as it is a nearly rot free wood like black locust.
Feel free to contact me for a tour.

Spruce is the perfect outside building lumber. Thanks to Margo’s tree surgery, we will be cutting a nice load of spruce this spring. A great afternoons work here. The insides of the bluebird boxes are unplaned so the chicks can crawl out.

The anatomy of a well stacked solar kiln of various woods.
Starting on the right bottom and going counterclockwise:
-7 1/2 foot long massive walnut slabs ( one natural edge for book matching )stacked perfectly flat off the floor.
-6 1/2 foot walnut live edge slabs.
-4X4 walnuts for table legs.
-20 inch wide walnut round cookies.
-boule of short fat walnut slabs.
-boule of short fat Kentucky coffee bean slabs to be used as no rot outdoor bench legs.
The solar fans on the top of the kiln push warm are through the pile to speed up drying. On a good sunny summer day it will add 40 degrees to the outdoor temperature. In the winter on a sunny day it feels like a sauna.
