Nyleve Bridge Corp. earned an Excellence in Concrete Award in the Infrastructure category for our SR 209/SR 33 Bridge Replacement project from the Eastern Pennsylvania & Delaware Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). The award was presented on April 30 at The Inn at Villanova University.

The success of this project was made possible thanks to a strong partnership with PennDOT District 5-0 and the support of a strong project team.

No one likes traffic, especially when it backs up near a highway construction zone. Sometimes the actions we take lead to dire consequences for the workers, and the driver.

National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 20-24) is perfectly timed at the start of the busy construction season. This year's theme is "Safe Actions Save Lives."

Before you enter a construction area, take a deep breath, put the smartphone away, slow down, and stay aware. Let's work together to keep everyone safe.

Let's talk access. Bridge construction requires us to plan ahead to make sure we have the proper work areas.

In the case of our SR 209/SR 33 northbound bridge project in Monroe County, we had to make sure we had adequate space on each side of the stream to work on the bridge abutments.

Pictured is a typical stream diversion using a combination of super sacks and 54-inch concrete barrier. The plastic is draped over the barrier and secured at the top and bottom with sandbags to keep the plastic in place.

Whether the bridge crosses a stream, roadway, or railroad tracks, creating access to the workspaces early on is a must.

One of the goals on every bridge replacement is to reduce the impact to traffic. On this project in Monroe County, we shut down the northbound lanes while working on the southbound side, and vice versa. This is a win-win for motorists since we're keeping traffic flowing while delivering a smoother, safer, and more attractive new bridge.

Here's a blast from the past for Flashback Friday. Many years ago, Nyleve built this small, yet stunning structure known as Harmonyville Road Bridge.

Our scope involved removing an existing 28-foot single-span steel I-beam bridge and replacing it with this 34-foot single-span prestressed, concrete spread box beam bridge, which carries Harmonyville Road over Pine Creek in Elverson, Chester County. We also did 600 linear feet of vertical roadway alignment and widening of the road and bridge.

Whether it's a single-span box culvert or a 10-span prestressed concrete bridge, Nyleve can build it.

We're celebrating Women in Construction Week. We're not only grateful for the ladies past and present that have been members of the Nyleve family, but also those that we've partnered with over the years.

More and more women are choosing careers in the trades. There is no doubt Nyleve, and our industry as a whole, will continue to benefit from a more diverse workforce.

Some of the most stunning bridges in the Philadelphia area were built by Nyleve. One example is the southbound I-95 Flyover in Bucks County, which was done under the Section D20 Pennsylvania Turnpike/I-95 Interchange project. This was the second contract of the PA Turnpike/I-95 Interchange project, which connected two of the most important arteries on the Eastern Seaboard, and also made I-95 continuous throughout the Philadelphia area.

A Joint Venture between Nyleve Bridge and James D. Morrissey, Inc. completed several sections of the Route 309 project in the Fort Washington area back in the late 2000's. Achieving success on large, complex infrastructure projects can only be accomplished through solid partnerships.

On December 29th, Nyleve hosted Senator Nick Miller of Pennsylvania’s 14th Senatorial District (includes parts of Lehigh and Northampton Counties) and Robert Latham, Executive Vice President of the Associated Pennsylvania Constructors - APC. We had a productive and informative discussion about current and future funding needs for roads and bridges across the region. We thank Senator Miller and Mr. Latham for taking the time to visit and for their ongoing commitment to improving transportation infrastructure throughout the Commonwealth.
