7/27/26: demob day, my time at Aspen Acres has come to an end, for a total of 23 days away from home. We'll take some R&R, fix up the dozer, and then it's back on the board to see where we may end up, thank you all for following along, and until next time.

7/26/26: Last working day here at the Aspen Acres fire. Completed a full roll plus an extension, pushed rocks, dirt, and trees 19 of the 21 days. Today, as with most fires in remote mountainous places, was equipment moving day.

7/25/26: one day closer to the end of our roll, tomorrow is the last day on assignment and demob Monday. We spent the better part of the day giving the machine some much needed love and getting it prepped to travel. Tomorrow we will load it and start making our way off the mountain to staging.

7/24/26: Today was the day you could feel the change in momentum as things really wind down. The fire is starting to downsize, with resources demobing and reassigning. We have 2 more days here, then it's our turn to demob and go get some much needed R&R. For the remainder of our roll, they have us fixing roads, and crew access points. We can use the term "fixing" loosely, rocks and boulders don't grade out very well.

7/23/26: things are starting to wind down out here. Rain the last two days has helped in our efforts to get a good hold on this thing. Worked my way off the line today just doing road construction in areas that pose safety hazards, like picking boulders like this out of the ground, so crews shuttling in and out have a better and safer ride on and off the line.

07/23/2026

7/22/26: another day and more rocks, needed a little rescue from a skidder winch today. Imagine a skateboard sliding a rail off a ledge and getting hung up in the brush. This mountain is going to take a piece of all of us with it.
