As part of the State of Connecticut’s Early Childhood Facility Construction & Renovation Program, Leading Edge Construction is working with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to help evaluate projects seeking funding to improve early childhood facilities across the state.

Over the course of 10 days, our team visited 15 applicant sites, working alongside LISC representatives to understand each project firsthand. We reviewed plans, budgets, schedules, and supporting documentation, then evaluated each project across a range of readiness criteria, including:

• Team readiness & strength
• Site access & control
• Project scope & design
• Project budget & schedule
• And other factors that help determine whether a project is positioned for success

We then brought those findings back to the table with LISC, helping inform decisions about which projects were ready to move forward and where additional due diligence was needed.

Now, the work is moving into the next phase.

Leading Edge will continue working with LISC and the selected applicants to monitor project progress, establish consistent reporting and communication, coordinate site visits, and manage requests as projects advance through construction.

There are a lot of people behind every application—early childhood providers, project teams, designers, contractors, and community partners—all working to create better spaces for children and the people who care for them. The best learning environments are constantly evolving. Whether updating classrooms, improving campus infrastructure, or modernizing shared spaces, construction plays an important role in creating facilities that serve students for years to come. As part of our Back to School series, we're highlighting projects that showcase Leading Edge Construction's experience working in educational settings throughout Connecticut.

Today's spotlight takes us to The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT.

Leading Edge Construction completed restroom renovations across campus, modernizing existing facilities to better serve students, faculty, and visitors. The project included demolition of existing finishes and fixtures, installation of new plumbing fixtures, partitions, flooring, wall finishes, and accessories, along with necessary building system upgrades.

The renovations improved functionality, durability, and accessibility while maintaining the architectural character and high standards that define the Hotchkiss campus.

Leading Edge is proud to support the Construction Education Center (CEC) in Plainville, where Todd Lessard serves as Vice Chair. As the official training affiliate of Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut, CEC provides apprenticeship programs, continuing education, and hands-on craft training that prepare people for meaningful careers in the construction industry.

Now, CEC is taking that mission a step further with a capital campaign to expand its campus, renovate existing training facilities, and acquire an additional building—creating more capacity to train the skilled professionals our industry needs.

For Leading Edge, supporting CEC is an extension of something we see every day in our work: when you invest in education, you’re investing in what comes next.

As summer winds down, campuses across Connecticut are preparing to welcome students back for another academic year. Behind the scenes, that preparation often includes construction projects completed during the narrow window between semesters. Over the next few weeks, we're highlighting some of Leading Edge Construction's work at educational facilities throughout the state—from colleges and independent schools to campus renovations that help create better spaces to learn, gather, and grow.

Today, we're taking a look inside Harris Dining Hall at Connecticut College in New London, CT.

Leading Edge Construction completed the renovation of the college's 18,000-square-foot primary dining facility, transforming the space to support a new foodservice vision while enhancing the student experience. The project included selective demolition and a complete reconfiguration of the servery and dining areas around dedicated food stations, including pizza and pasta, deli and soup, hot meals, beverages, and allergen-friendly dining.

The renovation also introduced updated branding, modern finishes, improved indoor air quality, increased natural light, and a variety of seating options designed to encourage collaboration and flexibility. An open ceiling with exposed HVAC and lighting systems, suspended acoustic elements, new millwork, flooring, and wall finishes completed the modernized space.

In partnership with ALIGN Architects and Capstone CT, Leading Edge Construction recently completed the new Peak Dental office at 360 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor, CT.

This approximately 3,000 SF fit-out marks the first Connecticut location for Paradigm Oral Health and includes exam rooms, specialty gas systems, and other detailed medical rough-ins required for an oral surgery practice.

Following the project's successful completion, the team will soon transition into a second phase.

Leading Edge Construction was proud to be one of several contractors, vendors, and service providers participating in the Grow the Trades event prior to the Hartford Athletic vs. Orange County SC match at Trinity Health Stadium on July 8.
Events like these provide a valuable opportunity to connect with our community and showcase the many rewarding careers available in the construction industry. With demand for skilled tradespeople continuing to grow, it is more important than ever to inspire the next generation to explore careers in construction and help strengthen the workforce our industry depends on.
The evening also served as a great employee appreciation event for the Leading Edge Construction team. We were delighted to have many of our employees attend the match with their families, giving everyone an opportunity to relax, enjoy a beautiful summer evening, and spend time together outside of the jobsite. Building strong relationships within our team is just as important as building strong projects.
The excitement continued on the field as Hartford Athletic rallied from a 2-0 first-half deficit to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw against first-place Orange County SC. The comeback reflected the perseverance and teamwork that we value every day.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, spoke with our team, and helped make the Grow the Trades event such a success. We appreciate the opportunity to promote careers in the skilled trades while enjoying a memorable evening with our employees, their families, and the Hartford community.

Leading Edge Construction's Todd Lessard recently attended the Construction Education Center (CEC) graduation ceremony in his role as Vice Chair of the organization, helping celebrate a new class of apprentices preparing to enter the workforce as licensed journeymen.

As the official training affiliate of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut (CT ABC), the CEC plays a critical role in developing the next generation of skilled construction professionals through apprenticeship programs, continuing education, and hands-on craft training.

The demand for qualified tradespeople continues to grow, making workforce development more important than ever. To support that mission, the CEC has launched a capital campaign to expand its campus and enhance training opportunities for future students and apprentices.

Leading Edge is proud to support organizations that invest in the future of our industry by creating pathways for education, training, and career advancement. Congratulations to this year's graduates and to everyone involved in helping strengthen Connecticut's construction workforce.
