Roofers Trapped Juvenile Raccoons in the Attic

This is why you need to be careful when closing wildlife entry points.

If juvenile raccoons are still inside an attic and the entry point gets sealed, the mother doesn’t simply give up and leave. A nursing female can become extremely destructive trying to get back to her young. She may rip apart ridge vents, tear up shingles, damage soffits, or even chew through roof decking to regain access.

The right approach is to make sure the entire raccoon family is accounted for before permanently securing the structure.

At Nukingstreet Pest & Wildlife, we capture and remove the raccoons and then address the vulnerable areas that allowed them into the attic. For ridge vents, we can install heavy-duty Ridge-Guard screening designed to reinforce the vent while maintaining its intended function.

Wildlife exclusion isn’t just about closing a hole. It’s about understanding the animal’s behavior and fixing the building so the problem doesn’t happen again.

Hearing noises in your attic or seeing damage around your roof, soffits, or ridge vents? Call or text Nukingstreet Pest & Wildlife at 800-466-9918, visit our website, send us a DM, or comment Help.

A maintenance worker found a bald-faced hornet nest on his truck and is allergic. The nest is located right inside the boom. Time to suit up and deal with it.

Two bald-faced hornet nests. One tree. This customer got the two-for-one special today.

One of these nests was especially concerning because it was hanging close to the sidewalk in front of the house. Anyone walking by, doing yard work, trimming branches, or simply getting too close could have disturbed the colony without realizing what was above them.

Bald-faced hornets are extremely defensive around their nests. Unlike many solitary wasps, they live in colonies and will aggressively protect their home when they perceive a threat. By late summer, those colonies can contain a significant number of hornets.

Finding one nest is reason to pay attention. Finding two active bald-faced hornet nests in the same tree definitely gets our attention.

We were able to take care of both nests and eliminate the hazard before a homeowner, neighbor, landscaper, delivery driver, or someone walking down the sidewalk got stung by accident.

If you find a bald-faced hornet, yellow jacket, or wasp nest around your property, keep your distance and give us a call. Nukingstreet Pest & Wildlife provides professional stinging insect control and nest removal throughout Northern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, with same-day emergency service whenever possible.

Cockroaches Nuked!

Sometimes a cockroach infestation gets completely out of control. By the time we get called, the roaches may be hiding in cabinets, appliances, wall voids, kitchens, bathrooms and other areas throughout the property.

Severe German cockroach infestations often get worse because of poor sanitation, delayed treatment, or failed DIY attempts. Store-bought sprays and foggers can also scatter cockroaches into harder-to-reach areas instead of eliminating the entire infestation.

In an apartment or multi-family building, the problem gets even bigger. Cockroaches don’t respect property lines. They can move between neighboring units through wall voids, plumbing penetrations and other openings. One untreated infestation can quickly become everyone’s problem.

That’s why we recommend periodic pest inspections and preventative pest control, especially for apartment buildings and multi-family properties. Finding cockroach activity early is easier, faster and usually less expensive than waiting until you have a major infestation.

If you’re seeing cockroaches, don’t wait for the population to explode. Nukingstreet Pest & Wildlife provides professional cockroach inspections, German cockroach treatments and preventative pest control throughout our service area.

Squirrel Pups: Reunite Them With Mom When Possible

Baby squirrels sometimes fall from their nests during storms, tree work, or just from being a little too adventurous. We also find squirrel pups when removing nests from attics, soffits, walls, and other parts of homes.

When nursing squirrel pups have to be removed from a structure, the goal should usually be reuniting them with their mother, not simply taking them away. Mother squirrels are attentive and will often retrieve their babies one at a time and move them to another nest site when given the opportunity.

If you find a baby squirrel:

* Keep people and pets away.
* Don’t try to feed it or give it water.
* Give the mother a safe opportunity to retrieve it.
* If the baby is injured, appears weak, or the mother does not return, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for guidance.

Wildlife removal is about more than getting an animal out of a house. At Nukingstreet Pest & Wildlife, we look at the entire situation: humane removal, reuniting dependent young when appropriate, locating the entry point, and repairing the structure to help prevent squirrels from moving right back in.

Bald-faced hornets on an electric meter. Not exactly where you want to find them.

Most electric meters are read remotely these days, so a utility worker may never need to approach this meter. The bigger concern is everyone else who might not realize there’s an active hornet nest sitting right there.

This nest is partially concealed by vegetation. Someone trimming shrubs, mowing, weed-whacking, or doing landscaping could easily disturb it without seeing it first.

And bald-faced hornets don’t play nice.

They aggressively defend their nests and can pursue people who get too close. As their colonies grow through the summer, there can be a lot of hornets packed into one of these paper nests.

If you spot a bald-faced hornet nest near your home, electrical equipment, walkway, landscaping, or another high-traffic area, give it some space. Trying to knock it down or spray it from a few feet away can turn a quiet nest into a much bigger problem.

Nukingstreet Pest & Wildlife provides professional bald-faced hornet, yellow jacket, and wasp nest removal throughout Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut, including same-day service for stinging insect emergencies.

For many people, a bee, wasp, or hornet sting is painful. For others, it can become a life-threatening emergency.

At Nukingstreet Pest & Wildlife Control, we understand the urgency. If someone at your home is allergic to stinging insects, we treat those calls as emergencies and offer same-day service whenever possible.

Whether you’re dealing with:
• Yellow jackets nesting in the ground
• Yellow jackets or honey bees inside wall voids
• Bald-faced hornets building nests in trees or on your home
• Wasps around decks, porches, or entryways

Our experienced team can quickly identify the species, remove the threat using eco-friendly methods whenever appropriate, and help restore your family’s peace of mind.

Don’t wait until someone gets stung. If you’ve noticed increased bee, wasp, or hornet activity around your property, it’s best to have it inspected before the nest gets larger.
