A Reminder before you call for service, a few things to check that might save you a service call.
1. Check or Change your Air filter! Time goes by so fast that it may just feel like yesterday that you changed it. 1” Air filters in a single orientation usually have about 30 day use under everyday usage. Dirty air filters will block airflow, and can cause the coil to freeze and can damage your compressor.
2. Check your out door coil. Use your water hose to spray off the fins. Dirty Condenser coils can cause the ac to run hotter and it will eventually can cause your capacitor to blow. Any dirt or debris you can get off the coil will help.
3. Check the batteries in your thermostat. Sometimes the batteries get weak and can no longer power the relays.
4. If Accessible check your units circuit breaker to see if the breaker tripped. A tripped breaker will usually be in the middle position or slightly to one side.
5. It’s always important to know where your AC drains to. This may be to a floor drain, it may travel thru the ductwork to the outside (on slab duct systems) or thru the use of a condensate pump. Make sure your unit drains properly.
If your Ac runs great during 80° weather but struggles above 90° during high heat periods there may not be anything wrong. Your unit may not have enough cooling power during extreme hot periods because the cooling demand has went up.

After all these steps your outdoor unit is not running and it should be. Set your thermostat to off. This will end the call for cooling and prevent further damage.
