Ground penetrating radar is an accepted and routinely used nondestructive method for imaging objects in concrete

prior to cutting or coring. It is a safe application of radar regulated by the FCC and fieldwork typically requires only one operator. Imaging results are generated on-site for immediate mark out and analysis of targets in selected areas. The inspection, under normal circumstances, can be performed on one side of the slab, which permits slab-on-grade scanning. Some applications of GPR include, but are not limited to:
• Locating reinforcing bars
• Locating post-tension cables
• Locating metallic and non-metallic conduits
• Detecting voids beneath slab-on-grade
• Slab thickness and cover depth to targets

CSI recently performed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning of a concrete slab prior to planned core drilling.

Our scanning identified multiple layers of reinforcement and buried anomalies with characteristics consistent with conduit, which were marked directly on the surface for the contractor.

Approximately 230 linear feet of trench scanning completed for another great build by D&D Construction for SWTHZ in Jersey City.

Our team used Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to identify and mark reinforcing steel and buried utilities within the proposed trench path, providing the information needed before concrete removal and excavation began.

Sometimes the best way to locate a utility outside is to start from the inside.

For this project, our team identified the electrical pathway within the building and then traced it to the exterior, providing the contractor with a clear understanding of where the conduit exited the structure.
