Not long ago, Jaden Muniz wasn't sure what direction his life would take. Today, he is the first Mears Electric Solutions employee to graduate from the Independent Electrical Contractors-Rocky Mountain Chapter (IECRM) Program.

Over the past four years, Jaden completed more than 8,000 hours of hands-on fieldwork and 576 hours of classroom instruction while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Through long days in the field, challenging coursework, and the support of mentors along the way, Jaden discovered confidence, purpose, and a clear vision for his future.

"Stuff just makes sense now," Jaden said.

As the first Mears Electric graduate of the program, Jaden is helping pave the way for about 40 current apprentices who will follow in his footsteps. Mears Electric expects to double that number next year.

“Jaden demonstrates all the things we look for at Mears. He has demonstrated humility, perseverance, and strong leadership skills,” said Dave Pavelka, president of Mears Electric. “We could not have asked for a better individual to represent Mears Electric as our first graduate.”

This summer, Mears is proud to support Peoples Gas's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign and the American Cancer Society.

This ongoing effort will culminate this fall with a fundraising walk at Raymond James Stadium, where more than 30,000 people are expected to come together in support of the cause.

Last month, we attended the Ribbons & Rosé kickoff event in Tampa, where Peoples Gas President and CEO Helen Wesley shared her personal connection to the mission and Tampa Mayor Jane Castor spoke about the power of community leadership in the fight against cancer.

This is a deeply personal cause for many, and one we are proud to support. Thank you, Anne Marie and Mark Filteau, for representing us.

Heat safety isn’t always high-tech. Sometimes it’s making sure the next water bottle gets handed out in 20 minutes.

Especially during peak summer work, heat safety takes a crew effort.

At Mears, our crews use a designated “water monitor” to help keep water moving across the job site and make sure teammates stay hydrated.

Heat illness starts with the small signs you can catch early: fatigue, headaches, slowed reactions, and confusion.

Every day in the field, crews catch hazards before they become incidents.

A hand stopped before a pinch point.
A damaged tool pulled from service.
A hazard corrected before work begins.

The Good Catch Program helps turn those moments into shared lessons across the jobsite. It keeps crews engaged, encourages people to speak up, and reinforces looking out for one another before something serious happens.

That mindset was on full display last week when one Colorado jobsite submitted 20 Good Catches in a single week for the first time — a strong sign that proactive hazard recognition is continuing to gain momentum in the field.
