Meet Ritchie Smith, a homeowner in Lancaster County, PA, whom we first helped several years ago. In 2026, he experienced another unfortunate event when a pickup truck crashed into his garage, causing significant damage to the exterior of his home and the garage door. Unexpected water damage in your home can happen to anyone. A burst pipe, leaking appliance, flooded basement, or overflow can cause serious damage fast, but taking the right steps immediately can help minimize the impact.

Here are the first things to do:
✔️ Stop the water source if possible. If you can’t locate the exact source, shutting off the main water valve is a great way to control the situation, especially if water is pouring through your ceiling or walls.
✔️ Contact plumber to fix the source (if the issue was a pipe burst or leak)
✔️ Take photos/videos for insurance documentation. Make sure to include close-up shots as well as wide pictures of the entire affected area. You can also document any personal belongings that may have been damaged.
