If you’re Sable Palms, have these unique looking seedpods forming right now, it is time to cut them off before you have a huge mess. They will form seeds and will fall in the pool and all around. If you wait until they start falling, you will already have a huge mess. Perfect timing is now to get these removed off of the sabals and disposed of. They will have bees in them pollinating so be extra careful if you are unable to tackle this job please reach out to us and we can take care of it for you.

Another update on the article blast. If your Sylvester palm is not covered and or wrapped up tight with a heat source like a light bulb, your Sylvester palms WILL die. These palms are rated for 15 degree wind chill or the “feel like” temperature. At 19 degrees on Tuesday, the wind chill will be much lower than the 15 degrees at what the palms can handle. Also the long freezing duration could cause these types of palms to freeze and die. Here at La Palm Farms, we love palms and want to give you all the info needed to protect these trees.

Everyone with Sylvesters, pigmy date Palms, Mexican fan palms, queen palms, or mule palms, needs to wrap those palms up. Monday night going into Tuesday we will get the epic cold blast that could potentially kill your palms. Remember, it’s not the actual temperature that kills a palms, it’s the “feel like” or wind chill that kills them. The duration of the freezing temps also has an effect on if your palm will make it through this event.
Don’t use plastic to wrap them. Only use shipping blankets and close the canopy. Wrap or cover the entire palm. A non led light bulb could put out enough heat to keep it warm.
