Do you have people with longer hair in your household? That's usually the first question worth asking when a bathroom drain starts slowing down.

Hair buildup is one of the most common causes of a slow or clogged drain, and the good news is it's often something you can handle yourself before picking up the phone.

A plastic hair snake - sometimes called a drain clog remover tool, is one of the most useful things you can keep under your bathroom sink. They run just a few dollars at most hardware stores and can clear out a surprising amount of buildup in a few minutes. No chemicals, no plumber needed.

A few other things worth trying first:
•Remove and clean the drain stopper - hair and soap scum collect there too
•Run hot water for a few minutes to loosen buildup further down the line
•Try a baking soda and vinegar flush before reaching for chemical cleaners

If you've worked through all of that and the drain is still slow, that's usually a sign something deeper is going on. That's where we come in.

Finding a leak in your home can feel stressful, but knowing what to do in the first few minutes makes a real difference.

Here's a simple order of operations:

1️⃣. Locate your main water shutoff and turn it off.
This stops water from continuing to flow and limits how much damage can happen while you figure out next steps. If the leak is isolated to one fixture, the shutoff valve under the sink or behind the toilet may be enough.
2️⃣. Turn off your water heater.
Once the main supply is off, turn off your water heater too. Running a water heater without water flowing through it can damage the unit.
3️⃣. Open faucets to drain remaining water.
This relieves pressure in the lines and clears out water that's already in the pipes.
4️⃣. Document what you're seeing.
Take photos before cleaning anything up. This helps your plumber understand what happened and can be useful for insurance purposes if needed.
5️⃣. Call Mayday Plumbing 541-357-4580

Even if the leak seems minor, it's worth having someone take a look to confirm there's no underlying issue driving it.

When you hire a plumber, those three words carry a lot of weight. Here's what they actually mean for you as a homeowner:

Licensed means our team has met Oregon's requirements for plumbing knowledge, training, and safety standards. CCB #257032.

Bonded means there's financial protection in place if something goes wrong on the job.

Insured means you're not on the hook if there's an accident or damage during the work.

Hiring someone without these in place puts you at real risk. It's always worth asking before anyone starts work on your home.

Mayday Plumbing Co. is licensed, bonded, and insured — and proud of it. Give us a call at 541-357-4580. 🔧

Low water pressure is one of those things that's easy to live with - until it isn't. But it's also worth paying attention to, because it can point to a few different things depending on where and how it shows up.

A few common causes:
•A partially closed shutoff valve somewhere in the line
•Buildup or sediment inside older pipes
•A failing pressure regulator
•A leak somewhere in the supply line pulling pressure down
•Municipal supply issues affecting the whole street

If it's just one fixture, the fix is often straightforward. If it's throughout the whole home, that's usually a sign something bigger is going on and worth having a plumber take a look.

Give us a call at 541-357-4580 and we'll help figure out what's going on. 🔧

A small leak under the sink might not seem urgent, but left alone it can do a surprising amount of damage over time. Warped cabinet floors, mold growth, and water damage to surrounding areas are all common results of a leak that went too long without attention.

Here's what to keep an eye on:
🔧Moisture or water pooling inside the cabinet
🔧A musty smell coming from under the sink
🔧Water stains on the cabinet floor or walls
🔧Pipes that feel damp or show white mineral buildup around joints

Some under-sink leaks are simple fixes. Others point to a bigger issue with the supply line, drain connection, or surrounding plumbing. Either way, it's worth having someone take a look sooner rather than later.
