LandCurrent is a climate positive company, meaning that we offset more C02 than we emit with our business operations. At a business operation level this is actually not so difficult.
We are also aiming to create net-zero carbon projects through careful design and detailed construction specifications. It is incredible hard to gain back the carbon emissions from construction materials and activity. Even when we minimize material with a high embedded carbon footprint and plant lots of trees we still cannot even come anywhere close to achieving carbon neutrality. The only way for a landscape such as a park to be carbon neutral is for material production process to be carbon neutral or carbon positive. For that to be possible we need the energy grid to be carbon neutral and we need the government to step up with stringent divisive climate action by for instance mandatory carbon capture at manufacturing smoke stacks. The technology is available, what we need is the political will and that means your will.

Climate change is effecting everything, from our ability to breathe fresh air, to our food supply, construction costs, health, economic well-being, psychological well-being, you name it. We all have to do our part to stop adding more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. This is why LandCurrent designs landscapes with climate in mind. We design our projects to be carbon neutral in 5 to 7 years. This means we minimize construction materials with a high carbon footprint and instead use materials that are carbon neutral and materials and vegetation that sequester greenhouse gasses. Be part of the solution.

It is with sadness that I read this. I hiked pieces of the PCT and always loved following some thru hikers on their adventures. On climate change we have to understand that we all contribute and we can all contribute to solutions. Don’t let people convince you that you can’t do anything because your carbon footprint reduction is wiped away by some big corporation in literary a second. Those big corporations want growth and profit and for that they need consumers at the end of the supply chain, that consumer is you. When corporations see that consumer behavior is changing towards demanding carbon neutral products and services they will adapt. You can also change things by voting for the best climate policies.
My landscape architecture practice LandCurrent is net-zero, you can see how I have achieved this on the website, it is easy for a small business like mine. LandCurrent is now ensuring all projects that we design achieve a carbon neutral construction footprint within 10 years. Our goal is to bring this down to 5 years. There will be posts in the future about how we achieve this per project.

The already grueling 2,600-mile hike now includes the added challenges of global warming, which can mean a lack of shade and exposure to smoke and fire.
