I particularly like the Abelia, Calluna, and Lonicera. The Cypress is particularly popular in pots and even the straight species of Choisya has gold new growth, if the cultivar is just too bright. As the author warns, don’t go overboard. Plus, some of these yellows are associated with unhealthy appearances so make sure you like the particular hue.

When designing your landscape, selecting shrubs with evergreen, yellow foliage will brighten gray winter days.

We are so lucky to live in a place with such great seasonal shifts. When considering winter plant interest, we think of showy bark, wind-blown grasses, frosty perennial
seed heads, and foliage color that brightens with cold weather. These and other ideas to be found in this article:

Throughout the great length of our Pacific Coast Mediterranean climate region winter can be a special, rewarding time in our gardens. This is obviously true in the mildest areas where there can be tree dahlias flowering above walls, aloes among rocks and dozens of Australian and South African shrubs...

There are so many great aspects to trees and pollinator support is just one. We are coming into tree planting season now and can continue into winter. Have room for another in your garden? Need some shade to help beat summer heat? Deciduous trees let winter light in and can be selected for bloom or fall color and ultimate size.

These trees are the most attractive for pollinating bees in the North America region. Plant these trees in your yard to help local honey colonies.

We hope you came and saw our work at the Bring Recycling garden tour. It was a good turnout despite the rain. (Oregon gardeners know how to dress for the weather and that if we waited for sun, we'd never get anything accomplished!) This garden was brand new, so the plants are all small but super cute. The rule of thumb is the first year the plants sleep, the second year they creep and the third year they leap. Those are the most critical years for irrigation too. We'll be sure to post another picture when the garden looks more mature. With gratitude to the client, Studio.E Architecture, and the Bring Recycling community.
