WHEN YOUR TESLA POWERWALL 3 RUNS OUT OF POWER…

WHAT'S YOUR BACKUP PLAN?

At Atoms Electrical Co., we believe one backup solution isn't always enough!

This customer already had a Tesla Powerwall 3 with solar, but there was one problem…

During a grid outage, their battery was sometimes already sitting at 40% capacity. As the outage continued, the battery would eventually reach approximately 20%, enter sleep mode, and leave the homeowners in the dark.

So, what did Atoms and the team do differently?

We installed a secondary generator inlet with an approved transfer/interlock arrangement downstream of the Tesla Gateway, giving this homeowner another way to power their home during an extended outage.

Why downstream of the Tesla Gateway?

Tesla Powerwall 3 systems aren't designed to accept generator backfeed for battery charging. The Powerwall is designed to recharge from compatible solar or the grid when available.

By properly isolating the backup sources, we can provide an additional generator-powered option without attempting to charge the Powerwall from the generator.

But here's where proper system design really matters!

Before investing in solar and battery backup, homeowners should understand:

ANOTHER SOLAR SYSTEM RESTORED!

Another solar panel removal and reinstall is wrapping up, and Atoms and the team have successfully restored an older Enphase M215 microinverter system!

But what we discovered underneath the panels is exactly why solar maintenance matters! 👀

🐿️ RODENT DAMAGE!

Rodents had chewed through sections of the Enphase trunk cable, compromising the wiring and leaving the system in need of repairs.

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

Some modern electrical wire insulation and cable materials contain plant-based compounds derived from ingredients such as soybeans or corn. While rodents chew wiring for several reasons, damaged insulation can expose conductors, create electrical hazards, and lead to costly repairs!

At Atoms Electrical Co., we understand that installing an EV charger involves more than simply running a new circuit. It requires understanding electrical loads, available capacity, and proper load management.

OUR LATEST EV CHARGER INSTALLATION

Atoms and the team recently installed an Emporia EV Charger paired with an Emporia Load Management System on an existing 100-amp subpanel.

The challenge? Making sure the additional EV charging demand wouldn't overload the existing electrical system.

💡 THE SOLUTION:
NEC 625.42 — ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING LOADS

By utilizing an appropriate automatic load management system, we can dynamically reduce EV charging current based on the electrical demand of the monitored panel.

✅ Monitors electrical demand in real time.

✅ Automatically reduces EV charging power when necessary.

✅ Helps prevent the EV charger from exceeding the available electrical capacity.

✅ Provides a code-compliant solution when properly designed, configured, and installed.

✅ Can eliminate the need for an expensive panel upgrade in qualifying installations.

Not every electrical panel has the available capacity for unrestricted EV charging. That's why we perform proper load calculations, evaluate existing equipment, and understand when advanced load management solutions are necessary.

ONE YEAR AGO TODAY; THE BEGINNING OF ATOMS ELECTRICAL CO. WENT FULL TIME!

One year ago today, I walked onto my first job completely on my own. After spending years in the electrical field, dedicating my time, knowledge, and hard work to building success for others, I finally decided it was time to build something of my own.

I had a vision. I had a plan. And I wasn't going to stop until I made it happen.

What most people didn't see were the countless hours behind the scenes. The late nights crunching numbers, building my pricebook, developing business strategies, and creating systems designed around one goal: providing customers with an electrical company that puts communication, planning, quality, and trust first.

I wasn't just building another electrical company. I was building the foundation for something much bigger.

For nearly a year, I kept my head down and worked. Long days in the field, late nights in the office, and plenty of sacrifices. Every completed project, every satisfied customer, and every lesson learned brought Atoms one step closer to what I envisioned.

And today, exactly one year later, I'm no longer standing alone.

I'm proud to have Davis and Adam Tatum alongside me, two dedicated electricians who believe in the direction we're heading and the standards we're building.

It took time, strategy, and plenty of convincing to build the team and foundation I always wanted for Atoms Electrical Co. But looking back at everything we've accomplished in just 365 days, I wouldn't change a thing.

What started with one electrician, one vision, and a whole lot of determination has become a rapidly growing company with a team and a future I'm incredibly proud of.

We're just getting started. There's no turning back now.
