When the site is prehistoric, you let it be. Period.

Some places don’t need to be transformed—they need to be understood and respected. This project is a great reminder that good design can mean working with what’s already there, rather than starting from scratch.

Sometimes, the most thoughtful thing we can build is around what came before us.

NeoCon 2026 is about to open, and DMAC Founder & Principal Dwayne MacEwen will be taking the stage at NeoCon Talks at 1:45pm on Monday, June 8th, 7th Floor at The Mart in Chicago. In a dynamic, 20-minute presentation, Dwayne will be exploring what it means to “Design What Isn’t Written—But Felt.”

Great design doesn’t always come from having the answers from the start. Sometimes it requires unlearning what you think you know. Sometimes it means having the humility to ask the simple questions others may overlook. Sometimes it starts with simply asking: “What if?”

This will be a thoughtful, energetic, and honest conversation about curiosity, instinct, empathy, and the unseen forces that shape meaningful experiences.

Gearing up and getting excited for NeoCon Shows 2026, June 8-10 at The Mart where DMAC Founder + Principal, Dwayne MacEwen, is a featured speaker on the NeoCon Talks stage on the 7th Floor Exhibit Hall at The Mart and hosted by Design Milk.

His talk, “Designing What Isn’t Written—but Felt,” challenges designers to move beyond program and assumptions, asking better questions, uncovering what’s missing, and grounding ideas in deeper narratives of brand, place, and community.
