For World Environment Day, we're revisiting a conversation that fits the occasion. In episode 123 of Detailed, Cherise sits down with Paul Kariouk of Kariouk Architects to talk through the m.o.r.e. CLT cabin in Wakefield, Quebec.
Instead of clearing the site and settling in like a typical lakeside retreat, the cabin lifts off the ground entirely. A mast and floor plate foundation lets it hover above the landscape with a minimal footprint, leaving the terrain underneath largely untouched. It's a genuinely different take on what a cottage can be, and a good example of building with the land rather than over it.
Worth a listen if you're thinking about how design decisions translate into real environmental impact.
