Big projects start long before the shingles arrive.

For this upcoming roof replacement, we created a full drone rendering using Owens Corning Black Sable shingles so the homeowner could visualize the finished product before materials are ever ordered.

This property will receive:

nearly 90 squares of roofing

new Owens Corning architectural shingles

approximately 12 squares of siding replacement

integration with a large upcoming porch addition

full exterior coordination to keep the finished appearance cohesive

A lot of homeowners struggle to picture major exterior renovations from samples alone. That’s why we use drone photography, roof renderings, and design previews to help clients confidently choose colors and plan their investment before construction begins.

Finished photos from a custom elevated deck rebuild project just outside Fairfield, Iowa.

For this project, our crews completely removed the original aging deck system and rebuilt the structure using upgraded framing, modern materials, improved structural support, and a redesigned finish package while maintaining the original footprint requested by the homeowner.

This project included:

- full deck demolition and rebuild
- upgraded framing design
- Cedartone treated decking
- Elevation cable railing system
- custom stair systems
- structural reinforcement
- exterior carpentry and finish work

One of the biggest goals on projects like this is combining long-term durability with a clean finished appearance that fits the home naturally. The darker cable railing system paired with the warm Cedartone decking completely changed the appearance and functionality of the outdoor living space.

A lot of planning went into this build before construction even started. We created renderings, finalized layout details, engineered heavier framing requirements, and worked through material selections with the homeowner to ensure the finished product matched the vision.

Progress continues on this custom post-frame building project here in Southeast Iowa as we work with our client and suppliers to finalize a high-performance insulated standing seam metal roofing system.

This project is being designed with:

- 4” polyiso roof insulation
- concealed-fastener standing seam metal roofing
- improved thermal performance
- condensation control
- and long-term weather resistance for Iowa conditions

A properly designed insulated metal roof system can dramatically improve building efficiency, temperature stability, and long-term durability — especially on larger post-frame structures like this.

Progress continues on a large-scale commercial water damage restoration and interior rebuild project here in Southeast Iowa.

Over the past several weeks, our crews have been working through demolition, moisture mitigation, framing corrections, ceiling system modifications, electrical coordination, insulation replacement, drywall repairs, and reconstruction efforts to bring this space back together properly after extensive damage.

We’re now getting into the finishing stages of the project:

- final system modifications
- replacement ceiling tiles
- primer and paint
- self-leveling floor preparation
- and installation of new finish flooring

Water mitigation and restoration projects are often far more involved than simply replacing damaged materials. In many cases, portions of the original assembly must be redesigned, corrected, or rebuilt to improve long-term performance and help prevent future issues.

Commercial restoration work like this requires coordination between multiple trades, moisture management, scheduling, planning, and a crew willing to work through every stage of the process — not just the finished product people eventually see.

Another project underway for one of our original clients, the Cockrells. This time, Jeff and Steven are installing a new Mastercraft exterior entry door along with fresh trim work and updated hardware.

Still a few finishing details left before completion — final frame modifications, exterior caulking, paint work, and final finish details are scheduled next to get everything wrapped up properly.

Projects like this are a good reminder that quality craftsmanship is usually found in the details most people never notice. Straight lines, proper reveals, smooth operation, weather sealing, and taking the extra time to make things look right all matter in the long run.

This one was handled by Steven and Jeff — now unofficially known around here as “Rookie and the Relic.” One bringing the younger energy, the other bringing years of hands-on experience and problem-solving. Honestly a pretty solid combination.

Another project we’re currently designing in Fairfield, Iowa combines multiple exterior improvements into one complete exterior renovation package.

This property will be receiving:

New porch and deck construction

Roofing improvements

Concrete flatwork replacement

Structural support upgrades

Exterior restoration work

The existing precast concrete steps will be carefully removed, the area underneath properly excavated and reinforced with a new concrete support pad, and the steps reinstalled after cleaning and restoration to help prevent future settling and movement.

We also created a visual rendering showing the planned transformation of the front entry system, including upgraded concrete flatwork, improved access, new handrails, and a cleaner finished appearance to better complement the home.

A lot of older entry systems throughout Southeast Iowa suffer from settling, drainage problems, deteriorated support underneath the concrete, and unsafe elevation changes that worsen over time. Proper excavation, support preparation, and structural planning underneath the visible finish work are critical for long-term performance.
