It was a stellar day for Fairhaven as we celebrated the completion of the Phoenix Rail Trail renovation in front of the new signage at Pierce Park.

What began as a dream for the Green Lanterns to go beyond plantings and breathe new life into our town’s time-worn signs and structures is becoming a reality. And we’re in wonderful company — this sign, along with two more coming to Sconticut Neck Road and Shaw Road, was 100% funded by passionate Fairhavenites.

Heartfelt thanks to the residents and businesses who made this possible. We are especially honored that two of these signs will serve as lasting tributes to Susan Sullivan and Marin Stackpole.

Special thanks to Charlie Cabral and Bruce Gratz for their craftsmanship, and to the Board of Public Works, especially Anne Morton Smith and Josh Crabbe and the BPW crew, for helping bring our vision to life.

Saturday was a beautiful reminder of what unites us — our shared love for Fairhaven. With a little imagination and a lot of community spirit, it is possible to make magic happen in this gem of a town we call home.

Imagine if concrete medians throughout Fairhaven could be visually beautiful green spaces that also help manage storm water.

Some of New York City’s concrete medians in Queens are being reimagined as planted “sponges” that quietly help manage heavy rain. 🌿🌧️

New York City is replacing hard roadway medians in neighborhoods including Whitestone, Forest Hills and Queens Village with engineered green spaces designed to absorb stormwater before it overwhelms drains and sewers. Instead of sending rainwater rushing straight off concrete, the new medians use specially designed soils, underground storage layers and native plantings to capture runoff from nearby streets. City officials say the Queens projects are expected to manage about five million gallons of stormwater each year. Along with helping reduce pressure on the sewer system, the planted corridors can also improve local water quality, add greenery to the streetscape and make these everyday traffic islands more useful than they were before. It is a smart example of how even small pieces of city infrastructure can be redesigned to do much more.

UPDATE: The sign has been fully funded in less than 24 hours and the campaign is now closed. Thank you to all who supported! 💚

The Fairhaven Green Lanterns have been fundraising this summer for the Phoenix Rail Trail signs, with two signs already generously funded and slated for September installation.

We are now in our final phase of the campaign for the Shaw Road sign.

We will be asking for donations in memory of Marin Stackpole, a beloved 17-year-old, who lost her life much too soon.

We hope you will join us in contributing to this remembrance of Marin, a wonderful free spirit, who appreciated life, and every incredible sunset.

Each contribution, large or small, brings us one step closer to creating a lasting memorial in honor of Marin, and a guidepost for residents and visitors alike to enjoy in town for many years to come.

Together, let's donate to The Phoenix Rail Trail with a beautiful memorial at the trail at Shaw Road for Marin. Her family spent many days enjoying the trail together and having one of the signs in her memory would mean so much to them.

Our Campaign is Live!

🌿 Help Us Welcome Everyone to the Phoenix Rail Trail! 🌿

Every day, people of all ages and abilities enjoy Fairhaven's beautiful 4.5-mile Phoenix Rail Trail, and with major trail improvements now underway by the BPW, the Fairhaven Green Lanterns are launching our next community project: a beautiful new entrance sign at Pierce Park. We've done the homework, secured the necessary approvals, and are ready to bring this project to life.

Inspired by Fairhaven's timeless coastal character, the professionally carved, all-weather sign will create a welcoming first impression for residents and visitors alike.

Every donation—large or small—will help bring this project to life, and gifts may also be made in honor or memory of someone special.

Once the Pierce Park sign is complete, we'll continue working toward matching signs at the Sconticut Neck and Shaw Road sites. Together, we can create a guidepost as enduring as the trail itself. Thank you for helping us make Fairhaven even more inviting!
