Walking down Fairhope Ave- Nandina, or heavenly bamboo, is spreading in our woods via seed transportation from peoples yards. It has cyanide in its leaves and berries- not a great plant to have! Please do not use this plant. Thanks!

PSA: it’s a common misconception that just because something is covered, then erosion is minimized. Plants like Kudzu and asiatic jasmine are not the most efficient at mitigating soil egress. The root system is the most important, followed by foliage cover. Kudzu and asiatic jasmine roots are not deep (a few inches). Perennials, trees and shrubs (especially our native grasses) are especially effective due to the depth of the root system, often being much more diverse in coverage as well as several feet deep and wide along the surface. The roots in this image are more about depth and rather actual coverage. Roots spread in width-wise much more than in this image
