to be an artistic or digitally generated depiction of a cherry blossom tree growing in a highly unusual way, seemingly supporting or growing around a large boulder.

This visual is likely a metaphor for resilience, strength, or the harmony between nature and harsh environments.

The background features a mountainous landscape with a river valley, suggesting a remote, wild location.

It is improbable for a tree to grow in this exact manner in reality, suggesting it is a manipulated image or artwork.

Just as impressive underground as above ground. Despite their incredible heights of 300+ feet, typical redwood root systems are relatively shallow, only 6 to 12 feet deep. Redwoods create the strength to withstand powerful winds and floods by extending their roots outwards, up to 100 feet wide from the trunk, and living in groves where their roots can intertwine. This ancient giant fell naturally and will continue to provide life to seedlings as a nurse log for many years to come. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. A variety of apple tree once thought to be extinct was found in Colorado Springs. 🍎🌳

The two Walbridge trees, planted about 130 years ago, stand in front of the Western Museum of Mining and Industry, living remnants of the Reynolds farm that used to occupy the property.

Ten years ago, staff with a nonprofit focused on identifying and preserving heritage apple trees, the Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project, visited the museum and took cuttings from the trees to get DNA samples. Early in April, the nonprofit announced the trees’ identity. 🔗 Read more: https://buff.ly/bADw2dT

Tree Spotlight: The Tough & Beautiful Hawthorn Tree! Looking for a hardy, low-maintenance tree that brings beauty to your Fallon yard all year long? Meet the Hawthorn (Crataegus spp.) — especially tough varieties like the Crusader® Thornless Hawthorn! Why homeowners in northern Nevada love Hawthorns:Spring: Stunning clusters of white flowers that attract bees and pollinators.
Summer: Dense, glossy green foliage and a sturdy shape.
Fall: Vibrant orange-red to scarlet leaves plus showy red berries (haws) that persist into winter — a feast for birds!
Winter: Attractive branching structure and silvery bark add interest even in the snow.

These small-to-medium trees (typically 15–30 ft) are incredibly resilient: cold-hardy down to Zone 3–7, wind-tolerant, adaptable to clay/alkaline soils, and drought-tolerant once established. Perfect for our high-desert climate in Fallon and Churchill County! Thornless options like Crusader make them safer around kids and pets while still providing excellent screening or specimen planting.Pro tip: Hawthorns can be prone to a few diseases (like fire blight or rust) in some conditions, so proper pruning and monitoring keep them looking their best.At Going West Tree Service, we specialize in planting, pruning, and caring for resilient trees like Hawthorns that thrive in western Nevada. Looking for a tough, beautiful tree that actually thrives in Fallon’s high desert? Meet the Amur Maple (Acer ginnala)! Tired of water-guzzling maples that struggle with our alkaline soils, blazing summers, freezing winters, and dry conditions? The Amur Maple is one of the toughest maples you can plant in northern Nevada. This hardy small tree (or large multi-stem shrub) stays a manageable 15–25 feet tall and wide — perfect for smaller yards, patios, or under power lines. It’s extremely drought-tolerant once established, handles alkaline soil like a champ, and is cold-hardy all the way to Zone 2.The real showstopper? Explosive fall color — brilliant scarlet reds, fiery oranges, and deep burgundies that make your landscape pop every autumn. In summer, it has neat, glossy green leaves and attractive winged seeds. Cultivars like ‘Flame’ are especially known for their vivid red display. Why Fallon homeowners love the Amur Maple:Low to moderate water needs after establishment
Full sun to partial shade
Versatile — can be trained as a single-trunk tree, multi-stem, screen, or accent
Medium growth rate — grows fast enough to enjoy, but stays manageable
