Seed potatoes aren't really seeds at all; simply potato tubers cut into sections. Here at J&K LLamas Landscape & Nursery, seed potatoes are sold by the pound. On average, you can harvest roughly 10 pounds of potatoes for every pound of seed potatoes planted. Plant in rows 10 inches apart; one pound of seed potatoes can typically plant 5-8 row feet, depending on the variety.
We carry the following varieties:
Yukon Gold: These are early to mid-season potatoes with thin, gold skin and yellow flesh with rich flavor. Their sweet, buttery flavor is perfect for boiling, baking, frying, mashing, and salad.
Red Pontiac: A mid-to-late season potato offering sweet, solid, white flesh, dark red skin, and terrific flavor. It is a great all-around choice for boiling, baking, frying, and mashing.
Onions can be purchased in sets or seedlings. Onion sets are small bulb plants grown from seed the previous year. Here at J&K LLamas Landscape & Nursery, onion sets are sold by the bunches. Each bulb can produce two to five onions. Plant in rows 10-15 inches apart; one bunch of onions can typically plant 10-12 row feet, depending on the variety.
We carry the following varieties:
Highlander: These yellow, slightly flat, globe-shaped bulbs are very firm with thin necks. Highlander is the main variety planted by large onion farmers. It is sweet in flavor and excellent in sandwiches, salads, and even grilling.
Ringmaster: These large bulbs have firm white rings surrounding a single center. The firm white bulbs have mild flesh and dark green tops just right for green onions. They are an excellent choice for onion rings, delicious sliced-up in sandwiches, and fantastic for tacos and chopped salads.
