It's National World Swift Day!

A bird best identified by a "flying cigar" silhouette, the smudge-gray Chimney Swift spends almost its entire life airborne. When it lands, it can’t perch—it clings to vertical walls inside chimneys, in hollow trees, or caves.
This little bird maneuvers over rooftops, fields, and rivers to catch insects without any issues. Its tiny body, curving wings, and stiff, shallow wingbeats give it a flight style as distinctive as its chattering call.

Since Chimney Swifts winter in South America and migrate to their nesting grounds in North America, they are protected the the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA).
